Pity Canada's poor Simon Whitfield (winner of the gold for mens triathlon in Sydney) early last week he had food poisoning which set back his training.
If that wasn't enough he collapsed in a Mississauga parking lot last Friday from a severe allergic reaction something he ate (he has a history of food allergies)
He didn't make it to the opening ceremonies.

I hope he gets back in the groove for the 26th. And I hope he does better than he did at the worlds (31st place).

He's fine!

I was racing at the Continental Cup with him in Caladon, great guy! I was in the Age Group and he the pro division, of course! He got food poisioning two days later and ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. He then flew down to Atlanta to win a duathlon, (did the last 10km run in around 30min), crushed them!
Yesterday I was talking with someone at Guru bikes in Montreal and they were saying that the reason that he was still in BC was because of training and staying out of the pollution. What worlds are you talking about, I understand that he has won 6 of his last 7 major races.

Are you entered into the L'esprit on Sept 18th/19th?

Glad to hear he is fine - hope springs eternal.

NBC's profile on him is at http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletebios/5011772/detail.html

From the looks of the Tirathlon Canada site (http://www.triathloncanada.com/switch.php?action=displayHome&lang=en) Whitfield is in good form leading up to the Olympics.

I will be glued to the set.

Heck no! I only started doing this about 2 weeks ago. I could do the bike with my eyes closed but the swim would still kill me.

I can't imagine what the temperature of the water will be in the Olympic basin in September, but it is bound to be cold and I haven't _ever_ swam in open water. The Sprint might be doable - 750 meters in the water but I am actually aiming for the Mont Tremblant tri in June '05 then the Esprit in Sept '05.
