Subject: Anyone live in Philly?

It looks like I'll be spending quite a bit of time at the Marriott Philadelphia (12th and Market) over the next several months.  Lest I not go crazy on the treadmills here, does anyone have any recommendations for running routes leaving from the downtown area?  Think anywhere from 5-10 miles.  Oh, and preferrably ones where I won't get shot at

Thanks in advance...

The best route would be to run up the parkway from City Hall to the Art Museum.. When you're at the Art Museum, you're also on Philly's best running trail along the Schuylkill (on the same side as the Art Museum)! It's a very safe trail that usually has a lot of runners.

Enjoy your time in Philly!

Maybe like 2 miles from your hotel is Kelly Drive and West River Drive which forms a 8.5 mile path behind and around the art museum. You can't get lost on it and it's for running, biking, roller blading, etc, quite nice. Anyway, anyone working in your hotel will be able to guide you there, at least to the art museum. Any other questions, I'm sure myself or any of the other Philly BTers should be able to help. Enjoy the stay!!!

Thanks guys.  Just checked out the routes and it looks to be about perfect.  I ran the West route on the Schukyll (sp) once before during Liberty to Liberty, but for the life of me couldn't remember how I got there.

You should check out Monk's, and McGillian's.  Nice bars, not too far from where you are.  My wife works in CC.

One of the local running clubs (Wissahickon Wanderers) has some maps and scheduled runs you might be interested in.  Here's the site: http://www.wanderersrunningclub.org/

Also, not in the city, but not far is Bryn Mawr Running Club, they have some routes and maps for those routes.  Here's their site: http://www.runbmrc.org/

The run suggestions you rec'd are great.

Do you plan on doing any riding while there?

If I can figure out a workable method of transporting my bike back and forth every week once it gets light out in the a.m. - absolutely.  I'm even debating bringing my trainer to the hotel.  Suggestions?

Yep, easy to run from where you're at (and ride once you have daylight to work with).  If they frown on your trainer in the hotel, maybe you could try this.  It's not too far from your hotel.

And I work right downtown (16th & Market) if you ever want to grab some lunch while you're here.  We can discuss strength training or something.  j/k
