Brian-

Welcome to Team Skinny!  Just let us know what your goal weight is and I will put your data on the spreadsheet.  It looks like we (at least a few of us) are going to continue for awhile so feel free to stay and participate.  Weigh-ins are on Wednesday.

Hi

I note the move is to wrap up next week save for those who specifically say that they want to continue in next weeks posting.

I shall be in India and unable to log on (too busy, too difficult etc) but please count me in for a new thread.

Lost a few pounds so keen to build on that and this seems to give motivation.

Toodle pip.

Okay Mark...I'll keep you in the group.  If you want, just keep weighing in on Wednesdays and log your data...we can input it when you return or are able to get on-line.  Have a safe trip!

Idea for the group...How about we extend the Winter challenge until the end of Winter. That would be the equinox on March 21. Then we can transition right into the Spring challenge until the Solstice, etc.....The equinox happens to fall on a Wednesday.  How is that for perfection!

James- I like the new AVATAR!!

I just had to post this morning as I had a brutal workout with my trainer last night. I got up this morning, got on the scale not expecting much of a drop, but thought I would be down from yesterday's 168.4......and the scale reads 164.4...what?!?!?!?!?! So I do a double check...still 168.4. Then I decide to weigh post shower because I thought I must be hallucinating.....164.0?!?!?!?!?  I just don't get it! Well, maybe that means that my weight yesterday was just water retention? I don't know, but I sure was happy to see 164. It seems like working out with weights always gives mke a big drop, but 4.4 lbs, that was crazy. Anyhow, I will keep yesterday's weight for the chart so that hopefully next week I will be able to post a loss.

Good luck everyone! I am looking forward to continuing this challenge as ultimately I would like to get down in the 150's. I would also like to keep the starting weight from the beginning of this challenge so that we can see how far we have come. Thanks again for doing the graphs James!

I weighed in last night at 136.

start: 136
week 2: 136

I was surprised because I have been eating extra careful and following my eating plan and clothes are a bit looser. However, this is a pattern when i start loosing some weight... the numbers hang on, then it jumps down a good amount. But i think i need a new scale cuz when I jump on it, it sits at 133. so then i do it a few times and it is 133 then i shift to the right and it jummps to 136. i might need to just use the gym scale. maybe i have really lost 10 lbs (ha ha) and I just don't know it!

Hi James,

Thanks for including me in the challenge. My current weight is 210 and my ideal weight is 165. Since Im new I of course dont mind extending the challenge to March. I do have a wierd question maybe you can help me with. My ideal weight acording to the table is 165 or so based on 32 y/o @ 5'6. However I would be happier being aroun 280 or 290 with a much lower body fat %. Think its best for me to get to my goal weight then bilk up with muscle or stop trying to loose weight around 190 and start doing more lifting to cut body fat? I dont even know if there is a choice, my body may just do what it wants but I thought I would ask incase anyone knows. Thanks

Hi Guys!

Sorry I've basically dropped off the face of the planet for the last two weeks. Between starting a new class (physics!) and a bit of trouble with the new guy, life has just felt exhausting.

BUT I have been trying. I had a few rough days of eating and then got back and track, and after gaining 1/2 a pound last week, the scale gave me good news this morning.....

Last weigh-in (2 weeks ago): 145.5
Last week: 146
This morning: 144!!!! Keep setting new lows.

James-thanks for being so positive and keeping everyone motivated. I'm sorry you had a rough week but I know you'll bounce back and be great. And really to everyone-you guys are all inspiring.

Ok my goal for this week is to either get in the pool and do some swimming or FINALLY take a spin class. I am badly in need of new running shoes so perhaps no running for me....don't want to hurt my knees!

Hi Brian!  Welcome to Team Skinny!

James- I'd like to also extend my gratitude for the work you've done on the graphs and tracking everyone's numbers.  I know we all appreciate it very much!!

As far as continuing, I'm all for it.  I'm going to keep my goal the same since I didn't reach it and seem to be miles from reaching it.  It's getting nicer here so I'm hoping to start doing some outdoor rides soon...maybe that will kick start my weight loss again.

Oops--forgot to post.

RESULTS:1/24/2007
Ending weight167.0
Beginning weight167.5
Weight change this week-0.5
Total weight change-7.0

Down another half pound.  Can I lose three pounds in a week?   I'll keep trying!

Have not been able to run for the last two weeks because of what was thought to be a stress fracture, but is probably bad shin splints.  Back to the trainer.  I love running and miss it terribly, but truthfully I've discovered I get better weight loss results on the bike--and I can walk afterward!

I tossed my handheld BF device also, and got a Tanita scale.  The weight was the same as my old scale, but the BF% was quite a bit less.  It might be delusional of me, but the new BF numbers seem more accurate, so I'm going with those.  (It's REALLY nice to see numbers in the low 20's and going down rather than high 20's and going up!

I agree with Jim, I think it makes sense to continue the winter challenge ALL the way through winter.  It's just kinda cool that the universe has aligned itself so that we can post a final reading on the equinox.  Maybe after that we can convert to a Druid challenge:  equinox to soltice to equinox to soltice, and so on.  (Loser has to carry the big rocks.)

if y'all dont mind i would like to stick around for a while too. although i havent lost any i didnt gain any either and im afraid if i dont post here ill bomb all together. its funny how this board keeps me somewhat on track. i cant seem to motivate myself to train enough but it keeps me away from the bad foods. now if i were to only exersize and eat a little less id be closing in on my goal weight.
by the way elektra, thanks for the kind words. i know it has to come from within, i just need to BRING IT out. thank you

Dude!  by my computation that is 135 pounds of muscle on top of your idea weight!  That will make you start talking like the governor of my state...I assume you meant 180 to 190 but I couldn't resist pulling your leg.  Unfortunately I am not the one to ask....if you need some advice about getting to 280, I can help you there.  Believe me, I am the master of weight gain...can anyone say pizza?  ****, I said the p-word.  I say throw out the table but that is my uneducated opinion.  Watch your calories, pump some iron, train like a true Team Skinny member and see what happens.  That is just my 2 cents and I may just be full of.......

So how about I put 180 down for your goal and when you get there, you can decide if you need to drop a few more pounds.

Hi all,

Just got back from my vacation yesterday. Apparently even having an active vacation with two four mile runs, lots of swimming etc. does not even come close to making up for a pina colada diet. I am way back up. I had no idea one could gain so much in 6 days. I am not gonna post numbers yet, and hope that I can get things back under control for the weigh in on Wednesday. Let's just say that although I had reached my goal two weeks ago, I am well over it again.

Hey Team Skinny...

Sorry that I too dropped off the face of the earth. I have been taking a class the last four days and never found time to jump on the computer. If its alright, lets end this official challenge on Wednesday...then you all can make a new team if you like. I am going to drop out for the time being. Today I am 137...but really not going up or down. Found out today that what I have thought all this time was tendonitis is possibly a torn medial meniscus. I have an MRI on Wednesday. I think I will just focus on that right now and end with the official challenge on Wednesday.

You are all doing great. It has been so much fun to get to know each and everyone of you. Good luck in your weight loss and tri goals! I will be checking in on you.

Thanks for everything. I will still start the thread Wednesday morning if ya want.

LOL yea I'm sorry, my goal for now is 180 not 280. however if it was pure muscle I might be tempted. I saw this crazy article on yahoo today too, that someone posted on another topic on this board that said the muscle you have doenst mean the more calories it eats up. Thats depressing!! I cant be right however. Muscle needs energy. I cant imagine being on 2,000 or so calories and being a body builder. The study basicly said low calories make you loose weight despite the amount of exercise you do. Im sure next week it will be the way you hold your mouth while going to the bathroom.

Amy-

Thanks for being the leader of Team Skinny.  Good luck with healing your ailments...it is good that you focus there...and, based on my performance to date, I will still be here striving towards that original Winter goal when ever you want to come back...yikes

Please start the thread one last time.....[as Auld Lange Syne begins to play in the background]....

You know, I am not surprised at all....I am just waiting for "them" to tell me that weight gain is caused by breathing...then I will know it is time to quit trying and break out the twinkies.
