Subject: Crash aftermath: Bruises how long to heal?

So, last Wednesday I had a pretty spectacular crash (dropped the MTB at 25mph). as a result, I have some REALLY dark and deep bruises about the size of my entire hand on the inside of both knees.

I did an MTB race yesterday and had a hard time (may have been DFL in my class I didn't stop to check the results)

I tried to run today and ended up bailing on the run. I feel like my legs just are not there.

So my question is, how long is this going to continue. Anyone with a similar experience?

Hi Ride,

1 - have you seen a doctor? Bruises can be worse than you think.

2 - after seeing a doctor if your insurance covers it you might want to visit a physiotherapist just to make certain you are bringing the injury back to health properly.

OUCH!!! I'm not a medical professional by any means but I think you feel like your legs aren't there because your legs aren't there. Just don't do anything to make your legs worse, like racing or running, and just heal. Wait until the bruises are mostly gone before trying again.

In the meantime, work on your swim. And let us know how you are doing.

Go to the doctor. If a clot develops at the bruise site and breaks away, you could be headed for a heart attack. Seriously. Go to the doctor. Chances are it's nothing, but if it is something it's a really BIG something.

Ditto on the Dr. visit.
I crashed on my right hip many years ago. The Dr. didn't find anything serious but did tell me of several potentially serious side effects of deep bad bruises. I'm glad I went.
