Screwed up the training. Loads of visitors to my house – business trips, trips to New York, Toronto, too many friends, too many beers, too much bad food. Got my first tri this weekend and I’m not ready. The only thing I’ve done in the last 3 weeks is swim the course and a few other open water swims. Running – HA. Biking – no time. Thursday night for sleep – not a hope – got more friends arriving that I have to get from the airport.

I have done everything possible to sabotage the efforts I put in earlier. Even the all clear from the Doc on my foot ( cartilage growth that is scarily called a tumor!) didn’t cheer me up.

Yet – I know I can do the swim – its only a sprint – I may not be fast but I can do it – I could do breast stoke for a while if I had to. I can bike – probably – 15 miles? Sure. Run – I could walk.

DNF is better than DNS isn’t it? DFL better still….. I might manage that!

Sigh – anyone else doing the sprint at the Timberman on Saturday in NH?

I’m gonna hurt Sunday ain’t I???

You go Mike!  Of course you can do it.......consider the past 3 weeks a taper.  If you can do the swim, then you can do the rest.

DNS is better than RIP
If you can drag yourself through the water then the rest of the way is easy.

GO MIKE! Just think, there's always at least someone that doesn't show up on race day. If you at least finish (I think crawling is allowed), then you've come in ahead of everyone who didn't show up! There's no such thing as last place if you finish. Remember, in a race against yourself, you always come in first place

You should definitely do it. You'll kick yourself if you don't and I bet you are in better shape than you think.

You are going to be so glad you did it! I was pretty sure I wasn't going to do Danskin this weekend either because I'd been so sick all week. I didn't actually decide TO do it until about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. I'm so glad I did! My times weren't great, but I had a great time. That's all that matters, anyhow! If you don't do it, you'll be kicking yourself. If you do you'll be able to say, "I wasn't as ready as I could have been, but I still did it! Yay me!"

Be sure to give us a report!

Mike- Ypu have not wimped- life got in the way- and better UNDERtrained than over is the mantra- DO IT and LOVE IT !! If I could come watch I would be there- my tri is this saturday also a few towns over in Wolfeboro- - I have had a forced taper due to knee issues since the Danskin (my 1st)8/1- so I am feeling ill prepared also- trying to just keep reminding myself-just do it and finish - (sometime in 24hrs !!) actually I have a wedding later in the day to go to- so I do have to fit some kind of time frame !!
I'll be thinkng of you while I'm drowning in Winnepasaukee, struggling up the killerhills on my bike , and crawling across the finish line- GO MIKE!!!!

mike - you can do it!i was in chicago for a wedding the week before, up late every evening with family, up with a teething baby every night, only managed a few workouts the week prior. i had a cold come on two days before the race. i still finished.

of course, if your anything like me, what you need to hear from someone is 'just don't go.' my mother told me i didn't have to race, that i should just not show up if i was so nervous. um, that was the best thing she could have said to get me to race. all anyone has to say is 'don't do it', or worse 'you won't do it' to make me follow through with something.

I'll be in Sunday's race, so I won't see you unless its to scrape your body off the pavement.  Please tell me I won't have to do that!   You can do it Mike!
