BESIDES ME THAT IS! Saturday is nearly here (finally), and with it, the Games of Acadiana Triathlon. Really just a mini-tri at 200M/10mi/2mi, but a good one to get my feet wet. I’m a little nervous, especially about the swim, but the short distance in the pool gives me a little confidence that I’ll be OK. On second thought, i'm probably more nervous about the transitions.

Dorian (djoye) is also doing this one as her first. Who else loses his/her virginity this weekend? Motivated (Karl), is your first this weekend?

Any first-timer advice from the more experienced hands?

First timer here! I am in the same event as Motivated (Karl) this weekend. It's 600m/11.7mi/5k and looking forward to it.

I keep reminding myself it will be fun and I trained hard so I WILL finish!!

I'm turning in my resignation to the V-Club this Saturday too!

My first, and I'll always remember her, will be the HiWaay Sprint Triathlon. It's in reverse order 3.0 mile run, 6.2 mile bike, 400M swim. I'm really looking forward to it, I woke up this morning in a panic thinking today was the race and I was late!

The following Sunday I am doing the Rocketman Triathlon 800M swim, 12 mile bike, 3.2 mile run. Mentally I am approaching this weekend as a final long training session. I am most concerned with the swim at the end of the race, but I have been swimming over 1600 meters so I'm confident that I will have enough in the tank to finish strong. I'm shooting for a top 10 in my age group, but my real goal is to finish in under 53 minutes.

Good luck to the rest of my fellow BTers and V-Clubbers...and non V-Clubbers this weekend!!!

Yep – Timberman tri in NH. Totally unprepared. Totally overwhelmed. I’ll walk the lot if I have to. Including the swim :D

Hey Tribesman, looking forward to seeing you and Tplauche this Saturday. This will also be my first Tri (even though its just a "sprint"). I hope someday, when I'm a real triathlete like Tmwelshy, I can do IM's with big hills too. I'm not worried about the distances, its all the other little details like making sure I have everything I need, how to manage the transitions, etc.

I am worried, however, about the Oly at Tugaloo State Park in 4 weeks!

Between Tribesman, Tplauche and myself, we'll have about 10 friends and family joining us for a pre-race dinner Friday night down in Jackson, GA. I suppose the other added benefit to this hobby and this site is meeting new people with similar interests.

Ya'll be good.

my advice - get a massage the evening before your race, drink a nice big glass of warm milk or chamomile tea, anything to help you get a good nights sleep! i tossed and turned 2 nights before my race...so the day before my race - minimal caffeine and sugar. eve before the race my husband gave me a massage, i drank warm milk, took a nice warm bath. slept great (as great as one can the night before a first!).

have fun. i also hoped to not be dfl, or even do well in my class. i was happy to finish and to do better than i had expected (7 minutes off what i thought i would do).

i also found it helpful to find a place away from the crowd to do some quiet stretching, visiting with my husband and daughters, and calming myself before the event. plus, we found some vacant bathrooms no one seemed to know about!

I'll be doing my first tri this Sunday Aug 22, in Key Biscayne FL. It's a sprint, 400m, 10mi, 3 mi.

I've been training for 6 weeks, and I feel ready, I can't wait!!

Running is my weakest point and on top of it I developed a pain in my knee 2 weeks ago. but after ice and rest, I ran 2mi on Monday and 2.5 miles on Tue with no pain (discomfort, and my knee felt a little sore for the rest of the day, but no pain!). So I'm thinking that even if I have to walk, I'll finish.

CAN'T WAIT!

I'm doing my first Oly this Sunday in Hartford Ct. It's the first time I have to stay in a hotel the night b4. That, and the fact that my training schedule was effected first by knee pain and now by a cold has got me feeling similar to how i felt b4 my first sprint. Good luck to all, Mark

Good luck to all of you. I am proud of you. I am also envious-I don't get to do my first one until at least November.

Question: What is it with the lack of pottys or LONG lines at the pottys at these events? I have read many race reports mentioning this. Will I need to bring my camping potty in the back of my Suburban? Perhaps I can make the entrance fee back in renting it to the desperate (just kidding).

Hopefully the bushes are free and plentiful.

This will be my first tr, but I've never seen a running race where they had adequate porta potties. I've honed my routine so that I quit hydrating an hour or so before the start, get in line for the porta pot, do my business, and get BACK in line.

Rinse, lather, repeat until the start.

My wife and I are doing our first tomorrow (Thursday).  It the Lake Terramuggus sprint triathlon in Marlborough CT (starts at 6:30pm).  I hope I can keep up with my wife, she is definitely in better shape than me .  I'm a little worried about the open water swim, but I've tried a couple of swims in a man-made pond near here and it has helped.

I've only done one so far, but I do have one bit of advice: smile as you cross the finish line. You'll want that picture.

Good luck to everyone else racing this week/weekend..

My first time is coming up on Sunday (Aug 22). I went to watch a tri for the first time last weekend. The thing that amazed me the most was how much fun the competitors seemed to be having. I've really been working my butt off the past few months, so I'm just enjoying my week of tapering & trying not to feel too guilty about missing my usual workouts....

Can't wait til Sunday!!! Good luck this weekend all you other virgins

I'm doing my first this Sunday: Tri the Rock in Rockwall, Texas. Its 300yd(pool)/14mi(HILLS)/2.9mi.

I'm really nervous about the transitions, and just the geometry of everything...how does it all work.

My goal is to be able run the entire 2.9mi.

also my 1st tri - 300m swim, 15 k bike, 3 k run - in Manitoba (Canada) it's been awfully cold lately. I don't own a full suit, I've been training in a pool, but yesterday went to a lake and boy was it cccooolllddd. Anyway good luck to all & I'll remember all the tips of the trade as I'm cycling & running - and thinking to myself "WHY"???

This weekend Is my first real tri. (Cant count the mock-tris). I'm going to pick up my packet at lunch today. I echo what Motivated said, I'm not very worried about this one. It's the oly is 4 weeks that is intimidating

On Sunday, not a Tri, but an important 10k for me, I've been training hard, to cut a lot of minutes from my last 10k race on February.

Have fun everyone!
