Subject: Just starting out myself...
so I'm a newbie. Not really sure how much I will progress or how fast. I did some running last night, I did two 1000 meter sprints(about .62 miles) at 6.0 miles per hour each with 4 minutes of light jogging between. The next time I run I'll try to do 3 sprints of 1000 each until I can get up to 3.1 miles of consistent running w/o the break. I'm wondering if 6.0 miles per hour for 3 miles is fast enough to be competitive?

Hello, and welcome to the site! 6.0 mph is faster than I run, so that's great in my book! I think there are a lot of people in the 9-10 minutes per mile range, so you would be just fine with that. Best of luck with your training!

nothing wrong with the pace...if your new, u dont wanna try to be fast...just wanna build endurance...if 10min/mile is your 'comfy' pace, then settle into that for a year...once u get a good base and build distance, then u can work on speed with less of a possibility of injury.

good luck and welcome.

Sounds like a good plan, but remember the 10% rule, do not increase your work outs more than 10% per week. This will prevent injury and allow your body to accept the change in routing more readily, and the endurance/cardio result will stay with you longer.
