i was totally psyched to start training for a triathlon after i volunteered for the ironman lake placid 2004 (only i figured i'd start out with a sprint tri first...), in fact i was going to do it with my father and brother...
then i was diagnosed with skin cancer on my ear, have had one surgery at the begining of august, and yet another this week.
to top this off, i am not allowed to participate in any strenuous activites for another 4-6 weeks following surgery...and definately not allowed to wear a swim cap on my newly "reconstructed" ear. will i ever be able to start training?!
BUT, i will get through this and, dammit, no matter what it takes, i will train for and finish a triathlon by next july!!!
Looking forward to the start...

Welcome aboard.
You'll do that tri by next july I can tell. Once you're recovered from your surgeries there'll be no stopping you.
Incidentally not all tris require the use of a swimming hat. If you get in a small town tri with only a few hundred entrants they aren't always required

Welcome to BT. Great attitude! You can do it. While you're waiting to be able to train you can read everything you can get your hands on, get your gear together and do everything possible to psyche yourself up so that when you do get the ok, you'll be ready. Also, there's a member here named rookie44 who has gone through the same surgery. You may want to ask him about his experience how it affected his training.

Welcome to the site! Sorry to hear about your skin cancer! Sounds like you've got a good handle on it though; that's great. Best of luck with your delayed training!
