Was looking around on Bike Direct just to check out what new they had. Came across this bike. Curious what people think about the componets for a beginner bike and is it worth it. Is it worth it for under $800.

Not a bad deal, but for around $800 you could probably get something along the lines of an 06 Felt F80 or Giant OCR2 or 3 w/complete 105. Not a bad bike, though.

I would check this out. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/nemesis06_SPECIALpre... I mention it everytime someone is looking for a good tri bike. Great price...great components...have ridden it for a year and love it. For a little more money you get better component package. But really either would be a good buy IMO.

Not a bad price!!! Anyone else have any experience with this bike? Don't mean to hijack the post but I've got a road bike and certainly have to spend less than $1000 for it!

You can buy brand new stuff on EBay for same price range with Ultegra and/or 105 stuff, not the junk that comes on the bike posted above ......

PennState - 2007-02-16 1:40 PM I'm not sure Bikesdirect is 'junk', but EBAY does have a lot of good deals on bikes and is definitely worth checking out. Fred

He was (I think) referring to the Tiagra components, not bikesdirect in general.

That is the way I read it as well. The Motobecane Nemesis I referred to above from bikesdirect has Shimano Ultegra 6600 and DuraAce components...not junk.

I'm a purist so not a big fan of road bikes.  I built my bike for less than $1000 but did so buying it a piece at a time thru EBAY.  Calculated I saved over $800 doing it that way.

theres a lady on ebay who sells strictly motobecane bikes really great prices, but you have to look at the listings, because she doesn't use motobecane in the description. if i run across some cash i think i will pick one up. cant beat it for a grand.

1. The Nemesis is a Fuji. I own the Fuji, and my bud owns the Nemesis, and the frames are identical, side by side. A new Fuji Aloha will run you $1800-2000

2. The rims on the Nemesis are XR-1's. They clock in at a little over 1500 grams. Thats LIGHT. I upgrade to these rims on my road bike and I had done quite a bit of reviews on them. For heavier riders, they might be a bit flexy, but for $250 you get a superlight pair or rims. I have been riding them for a year and I have only had to tru them once after 1500 miles.
