Doing the Tundra TT this past weekend has renewed my interest in getting together an informal group of cyclists to do some of the local GA Cup races and crits. No experience is necessary and it would be strictly INFORMAL (as in no team practices, or required events). Doing some of these races (especially the crits) are great for improving your bike handling skills and getting in a good, hard workout. You will need to have a road bike in order to ride the crits or road races. I am also going to post this on the NAMC site and see what kind of response I get.  If we get enough people we could order some cheap jerseys from Velowear or some other semi custom place so we would at least look alike.

Brett,
Why don't we pick a race (or two) to target, then possibly try to recruit for that (or those) specific race(s).
Your choice!
Thoughts?
Dave

x2

I could be interested...just depends on how it fits into the race schedule.  I am too Type A to deviate from my training plans too much.

Am interested as well and this post nails it...until "this" is defined a bit more clearly, it's hard to know if I'll be able to participate.  And between trying to be a good hubby/daddy, training, coaching my daughter's soccer team, trying to be a good "inspirerer," etc. I may not have two minutes to rub together...

I completely understand what you are all saying and that is the purpose for the informalness (is that a word?) of our group. We all are triathletes first and that takes priority in training, coupled with home and work responsibilities and there isn't much room left to squeeze anything else in.

What I would like to do is build a list of people who are interested in doing some of these races (www.georgiacup.com) on weekends when we don't have a tri or other commitments. They are alot of fun to do and a great workout in areas that we as triathletes are guilty of neglecting. I would definitly like to do the Dahlonega and Gainsville races. There is a 4 day stage race over Memorial Day weekend in Nashville that sounds like fun also.  This isn't going to be a priority for me either, I am focused on doing well at Gulf Coast and IM Louisville this year so nothing will trump those two races.

We are ordering a kit through Hincapie for Team Sportfactory. We are ordering these at cost so they are much cheaper than normal. If you would like to order one the deadline is Friday, I would like for us to wear these for whatever races we decide to do.

Kit ordered...went with the jersey and bib...Brett said the bib will hold the "menz" in place a little better....

and at the very least, now I'll be able to "pose" with the best of them and Brett/Matt might get some more biz...

Is this a boys club kind of thing? I was waiting to respond to see if any other girls responded but they didn't! To say I'm a little intimidated to compete in a real road race is an understatement. Maybe next year.....

Mindy,

You should do it too! I think Rebecca is going to do some of the races this summer, so you wouldn't be totally alone.  It would be great practice for you!
