Subject: what level on stationary bike = outside riding
Due to season, I've been training on a stationary bike @ Bally's which has levels 1-14. Does anyone know approximately what level would simulate outside riding? Should I just use whichever level gets me to a specific HR? I'm training for an Olympic on 04.07 and don't want to undertrain. Thanks in advance!

it would be hard to pick a number not knowing the machine you are on. at the Y i ride on a bike occationally and use '12'...but at the indoor tri i did, i used 6-8. its so different depending on the bike....and since stationary is so different than riding outside, there's no way to get an exact match.

i would STRONGLY recommend the 'workouts in a binder for the indoor cyclist' and a heart rate monitor. it will give you workouts and tell you what ZONE to aim for. it will also be a lot less boring than non-stop spinning at some arbitrary level for hours on end (although, i did a tempo workout last night from the binder...so non-stop spinning can't be totally avoided). since these workouts are based on zones, i think it would be easy to do them on a stationary bike.

best of luck!

Whatever level that gets you the same heart rate as when you ride outside.
