Hey everyone! Im a newbie who just began training for my first duathlon. Next summer I want to do a tri but figure by Oct 3 2004 Ill be ready for a 4k, 20k, 4k offroad duathlon. Does anyone have any tips on training suggestions? For the last month Ive been running then day off then biking etc. Right now Im at 3.5mi in about 30-35min each run wkout. Id like to do well in Oct and not just finish. Thanks for any input.

I highly recomend throwing in a swim session once or twice a week. It will help you stretch out for an upcoming bike or run. Try to do some brick work, the sooner you get used to running on jelly legs the less of an obstacle it will be race day. Keep up the great work

Add some interval training to your running - it will help with speed.

good luck!

"Ride Lots!"

Eddy Merckx, great Belgian cyclist

Also applies to running. There are no shortcuts, you do have to put the miles in. First you go far, then you work on going fast.

do some small (not race length) run-bike and bike-run bricks a few times a week in september leading up to your race.  good luck.
