Subject: Bike build question
I just picked up a 51 cm Litespeed Blade and I have a 10 speed Dura Ace Road bike kit that I can use on it. Besides changing brake levers and shifters, what issues might arise with derailleur or brake installation?

The bottom bracket may not fit, and the FD may not not be compadible (braze on, diffferent diameter clamp on).  Other than that, they should switch out easily.

bcotten534 - 2007-03-07 6:19 PM The bottom bracket may not fit ......

Why not??  Only in very rare instances is the BB spindle determined by the frame and all modern road bikes are 68mm not 73.  It's width is determined by the crank .......

Only way I can think that it would be an issue is if the kit is for Italian thread, then the BB wouldn't fit obviously.

Front der. might be an issue and headset/stem might be an issue depending on if it is a threaded or threadless fork.

I don't see the BB problem existing, but the FD may have to be clamped instead of using the brazed on bracket. What could the headset fork combo have anything to do with the kit? I have BB, brakes, index shifters(for sale), cranks, I think that's all.

I'll need DA 10 spd bar ends, a chain, new bars and brake levers.

Well, by definition a full build kit includes everything but the frame/fork.  So I was assuming that you had a bare frame/fork with no headset and that the headset was included in the kit.  Thus if you have a threadless fork and the kit included a threaded headset or vice versa it wouldn't work.

According to Litespeed's site...the BB is English style 68mm, and the head tube is 1.125

I think I'll have to deal with the front derailleur issue but everything else should be smooth.

I can't wait to get that bike built. I love Litespeed's quality!

Any suggestions on base bars or brake levers? I'm not going to buy the base Dia Compe 188's when other more attractive options are available.

Vision Tech base bar and levers.  Or a complete integrated bar from them.  Here are mine, and they are bad azz!

Those are sweet, but I can't ride comfortably on the S-bends or anything similarly flat and low. I need to stick with my Carbon Stryke aerobars or something similar. I had a brilliant fitting session on a Serotta fit-kit bike and tried various aerobars and seats while building the perfect fit.

I couldn't tell from your picture, but if your fork is carbon you may want to go with a titanium bolt to secure your front brake. the reason behind this is steel and aluminum rust, when they do it will seize up and you wont be able to remove the brake in the futu9re w/o damaging the fork. This happened to me on my last bike. The bolt was $11 at my lbs. (plus it us titanium, it matches my blade also)

My blade hs the Litespeed "titanium-enhanced" carbon fork. I thin I will heed your advice on that plan.

They also make a ski bend ... not just the flat one.  Definitely worth it!

I had carbon strykes on the bike before, but I always found myself putting my hands on the flat portion of the bars and not so much on the bends.

Enjoy the build!

Thanks Rick! I am so excited to build this damn bike!

I still admire the frame of my Litespeed Classic everytime I look at it, and it is six or seven years old. It will also be nice going from an aluminum frame with 105 to a titanium frame with Dura Ace.

The Blade arrived....SWEEEEEEEEEET!!

DA arrived too, now I need 10 speed bar end shifters, a stem, and possibly the front derailleur.

This bike is going to be LIGHT in a 51 size with Zipps and DA, perfect since I always ride hills.
