With the new age group policy being your age group is determined by how old you are at the end of the year I am a bit confused. I don't turn 35 until December but that still puts me in the 35-39 age group. Which is kind a strange thinking about since I just turned 34. So my question is when I am getting body marked and they ask for my age to mark on my calf do I say 34 or 35? My first race this year I said 34. Does it really matter at all besides making me feel older than I really am?

They usually say "how old will you be on december 31st of this year"  they just changed the rule last year.

When you entered the race you had to enter 35 right?  That's what you should put on your calf so other athletes know what AG you are in.  They might want to run your down.    Or you them...

When the results post you'll be in 35-39 anyway...  might as well live with it.

p.s.  my daughter's bday is Dec 31 so if she ever does a tri, she'll have a serious issue with this

I don't have any problem with the new rule... it doesn't affect me at all.  I'm the same age on Dec 31 as I am for the rest of the year.

Last year I was in the same boat.  I just told them I was 25.  It was easier than trying to explain and that's the age group I was competing in anyway.

That also puts me in the 40-44 age group this year.  I don't know which age group is harder my old or the new.

It matters if you are competitive and/or if you care about your USAT ranking.  The number of competitors in each age group can also affect other people's rankings, as it affects the weighting assigned to a race, I believe.
