Comments: With the heavey rain it was hard to see, caught a wave in the mouth while sighting early and sucked lots of water down. Major bummer, cost me some time while coughing it out and getting going again. What would you do differently?: Close my mouth. Transition 1
Comments: Felt like a good T1. Due to the heavy rain I bagged the glasses. Based on riding a TT the week before in similar rain it was a good decision. The glasses get too spotted up to see well with. Bike
Comments: Felt great. Really attacked the hills and was comfortable at that pace. The mountain riding and training paid off for sure. The course was hard on the tires though. After the race I found lots of tiny pieces of sharp stone dust working their way into my tires, lodged under the rubber working their way into the cords. Not sure I will trust the tires for much more. Too bad they were pretty new... Transition 2
Comments: My feet were wet and when I jammed on my shoes the insert in the right shoe jammed up under my foot. It took me 3 tries to get it on flat under my foot. It was really aggravating. What would you do differently?: Will use double sided tape under my inserts next time. Not sure how much time I lost, could have cost me a couple of spots in my age group. Run
Comments: Felt alright, first mile was hard coming off the bike plus the uphill. Got in a small group with 2 other guys in my age group and an elite women. Lost one spot in a passing duel in the last mile. What would you do differently?: Would have waited until the last possible moment for a kick/sprint to pass back one last time. I went too early and got passed back right at the finish. Post race
Warm down: Not much space, plus it was a muddy bog near the finish. Hydrated and ate a clif bar. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mainly the swim. It was rough and it's my weakest event. Need another year of work in the pool. :0 Event comments: Great race. Well run. They do a nice job. A commentator works a mic and a laptop near the finish calling out names of randomly selected finishers. It's a nice touch. Last updated: 2004-08-26 12:00 AM
