So I freaked out on July 31st and quit chewing, quit drinking, quit eating things that were not good for me and decided that I would start training for a triathlon next year.

So far it has been almost a month of no chew (totally over it), 18# lost, already noticing signs of a smaller gut and I am feeling like a million bucks. I can run over 3 miles straight now, Swim 1000yds at 1:15 50 yd pace and have done quite a few lonbg bike rides this year. I joined a gym and have been there 12 times in 18 days.

My goal is to do a sprint tri early next year and be doing Olympics by the end of season. I also want to be down to 200-210# by the end of next season, down from 259#

This stuff rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff

Way to go, Satchmo.

Be careful with those shin splints that you posted about on another thread.  Mostly shin splints are a sign of increasing intensity too quickly.  Reading this post gives me the idea that you need to drop back and consolidate your gains.  I.e. take an easy week and rest the legs.   You are doing great, don't jeopardize it with the rookie mistake of getting really hurt.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I think what happened is that I started running too much because the bike shop broke my stem and had to order a new one (no riding) and the gym closed the pool for two weeks so all that was left was running. Ifyou take a look at my logs you'll notice a decrease in in the other 2 disciplines and an increase in running. The pool opens back up Monday and I got together another bike to ride today. Thanks for making me see that I'm pushing the running too hard.

Gotta learn to listen to my body!!!!!

A little update on my plans for this year.

After volunteering for a local tri (one which I should have done, insurance be damned) I saw how much fun it was and realized that it is something I can do now in my current physical state. Along the way that day I met a fellow Indianapolis BT'er and he mentioned the Boilerman Olympic Distance Triathlon whith I thought about for two minutes and decided to do.

So.....I am cramming in as much training as my body can handle (without hurting myself) and I am going to do the Tri on the 26th of Sept!!!

I am down to 236# from 259# at the end of July.
