Has anyone ever done the Route 66 race? I'm thinking about coming up from Dallas and wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts on the event. Also, will wetsuits be allowed? I was going to head to Austin, but that's on Memorial Day and there have been a couple of "raised eyebrows" around the homestead. Route 66 seems like a good option.

Thanks

CK,

This is a snip-it from a US tri site....

This is the third running of the Route 66 Triathlon in El Reno, OK. Route 66 is an International distance event featuring an open water swim in Lake El Reno, biking down the original Mother Road and a 2-loop out and back run by Lake El Reno. Route 66 Triathlon will be held during El Reno's Small Town Weekend, June 1-3 at Adams Park. This festival includes a classic car show, cruisin' Route 66, and the State's only legal "burnout" along with other family activites.

The swim will be in a clockwise triangle, mass start from the beach. Lake temperature will probably be in the mid 70's, so wetsuits should be permitted. But, as always, that's a game-time call. Lake temperature for 2005's event was 76F.
The bike is an out and back course, the majority being on Route 66. The first 8 miles is relatively flat, miles 8 through 16 have some hills and then the final 8 miles flattens out for the return to transition area.
The run is a fast and flat 2-loop out and back course. Food, drinks and massage therapists will be on hand those who tackle Route 66 Triathlon.

I bought my wet suit!

I'm thinking of just wearing it around the house just for fun...I wonder if I could mow the yard in it.
