Subject: What a Difference a Year Makes 2h 5m 11.32 miles 11m 02s /mile
FIRST EVER RUN OVER 10 miles!!! Ran 11 miles in 2:00:32. Holy crap--I never thought I'd get to 5 miles when I started doing this last April. I'm still not a great runner (Read Fast ) but I'll take it.
I'm sitting here looking at the wallpaper of race numbers next to my desk. My first one is from the Big E Road Race March 25th of last year. I only ran the 3k portion of the run because I was intimidated by the idea of a full 5k. Three weeks later, I ran my first ever 5k, the Bunny Hop 5k (Manly name--lots of pink on the t-shirt too ) in a blistering 36:06. I can remember thinking that I would be happy to get comfortable with the 5k distance and that even a 10k seemed too much to take on. Less than a year later, I'm two weeks away from my first half-marathon. That's probably a slower progression than most people but I've never been a strong runner. This is a HUGE success for me.
Yesterday I went to put on a spare uniform belt that has been hanging in my work locker for a while. I tried to buckle it and found that even the smallest opening wasn't even close to being tight on me. One year ago, I weighed around 245lbs, was at 23% body fat, and wore 38/40 waist pants. Now, I'm at 222, 16% body fat, and 34's are starting to have a little room.
Two years ago at this time, I still had 3 more chemo treatments to go. Last year, I was 6 weeks away from getting remarried to the woman who put up with me all thru 8 mos of chemo. This year, I'm starting my first full triathlon season. It's amazing how much has changed in one year. I can't wait to find out what the next year has in store for me!
