Hi there. My name is Brenda and I've done 5 triathlons, 4 sprint distance and 1 international distance. I was a frequent user on this site until I got pregnant last year and it put my training on hold. Now I'm a mom and am planning on getting back into the groove next season and need somewhere to start. I look forward to talking with some of you and I hope to gain some tips on nutrition and starting a new training schedule that will fit in with raising a son. Right now I am just walking and am only 4 weeks post partum. I'll be taking it slow but hope to be ready for my return to the tri scene in June.

Good job...congratulations on your return...I will be interested in your journey the next few months...my wife is due in december...and has circled May 22 (cleveland) as her return to the marathon world...your issues will be her issues, so, keep in touch...

Good for you!  Congrats on the baby!  Take it easy now, but you'll be more than ready soon enough!

Congratulations on your new baby!! I was told to take it easy on running for three months to avoid future uterine prolapse. Don't know how much truth there is to that, but after three babies, I decided to stay on the safe side. I bet you could bike and swim as soon as you feel comfortable enough. When my youngest was a baby I used the jog stroller a lot and didn't bike. Then, a friend and I started sharing childcare so that we could run (or walk in my case). Then, when we decided we liked running together, our husbands would help out with childcare (mine on weekends, hers on weekdays). There is also a great childcare situation in our town where the woman who runs it is willing to take kids for an hour or two on short notice. Luckily, she's really great with kids and they love her, or I'd have had a hard time leaving my son there (my older two were already in school). So, perhaps you can find another local parent to trade childcare with you so that you could each do a workout. I'd love to see a baby pic, too!

hey brenda! 4 weeks? ah, it gives me baby fever. congrats on becoming a mother. it really is THE hardest job you'll ever love. i hope your recovery is going well. you have plenty of time to get back into the swing of things. let your body recover from the amazing work it has done in the last 11 months...then get ready to kick some butt! some women perform even better after childbirth!

i'm training with two in tow - two daughters, ages 3 and (almost) 1. my girls are with me during most of my training - either in the burley, the jogging stroller, and often on the beach with dad. i don't know if you are nursing, but structuring my training around breastfeeding has also worked out well (nursed my daughter in a sling during the pre-race announcements at my first race!). anyway, rest up, and welcome back!

I thought you meant a pic of me. :-)
Here is the little one. I plan on taking it slow to get back into the swing of things. I had a C section so that slows things even more. I'm already planning to upgrade my Giant OCR to a Cervelo Dual this winter. I just sold my Giant to a friend and am using that money for a down payment on the Cervelo. Now I need an indoor bike trainer...

It gives me such hope when I read posts like yours. I have a jogging stroller waiting to be used and plan on buying one of those little towable bike trailers for him. The good thing is my husband supports me 100% and will help take care of my son when I'm training. Looking forward to talking tri with you all!

training with the kids has been great. pulling them in the burley or pushing them in the jogging stroller is good strength and resistance training! tonight i'm biking down to a local state park with them in the burley, then will do a mini-mock-tri to get ready for my race on saturday. while i practice my transitions, they can play in the grass or sand. works out really well. my older daughter is already talking about doing a 'try-flon' someday. her babysitter has done a few (she's 12, and her mom is my tri coach). hopefully being surrounded by fairly fit, active adults will make an impression on both of them. my parents set a great example for me, so i want to do the same for my girls.

Congratulations on the new baby and welcome back! Don't push to hard, give your body time to heal especially since you had a C section. Remember you have all winter to get back into the groove.
