Subject: Started Training
Hello to all. I have just started training for my first tri (it is a sprint next June) so I have a lot of time to train. I would eventually like to do an Olymic next September, but I'm going to see have the first sprint or two go before I commit to that. I am 28, recently lost 60lbs and did a great deal of biking, snowshowing and hiking/backpacking to get back into shape. Now I'm 6'2", 180lbs and feel better than I did when I was in high school. A friend of mine is training for an ultra distance marathon (he also lost 50-60lbs) and although long distance running never interested me, a triathlon did. Currently I am working on the aggressive couch to 5k program, and although I don't think I need to take it that slow, I am attempting to avoid injury (I have had some serious tendonitis problems with my knee - mainly from too much weight and not stretching I think), I can bike 50k without missing a beat and I'm starting to get back into swimming. I will keep you posted as to how it is going.

Welcome to the site Shane. Good luck with the training.  Looks like you have a sound plan in place.

Shane, good going on the weight loss and tuning yourself up for the sprint and olympic -- I hope to do the same, too. I am also 6-2ft, but weigh 212 pds. Would love to get down to 195 - 200, but my wife won't let me go that far down. Can you believe that -- the knees would love it!

Good luck, buddy! Glad to have you, here.
