Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30, 2 slices of PB toast. Sipped on Gatorade until about 7:30.
Event warmup:

Rode bike to make sure no mechanical problems for about 10 minutes. Very short run, short swim and stretch. Ate one Clif gel right before the swim.
Swim
  • 21m 14s
  • 1000 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Found out the swim was 1000M as opposed to the 750M they advertised. I was really mad because my swim was so slow compared to normal. I found out the swim was longer the next day as I looked at the results!
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

I was getting a bit of an upset stomach on the T1. Not sure if I was so mad from thinking I had a bad swim, or if it was the new gel I had.(My fault, I know!)
What would you do differently?:

I had to re-coop myself. I did alright on the T1 all in all.
Bike
  • 41m 33s
  • 22 kms
  • 31.77 km/hr
Comments:

Did well on the bike. Got my abg over 20 mph, which was what I was looking for this year. Being only my second race, I think I did fine with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I vomited about 5 miles into the bike. I KNOW it was due to that new gel. I didn't stop, but I slowed for a minute to regroup. Still kicking myself for changing on race day.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Stupid insoles kept folding up when I would slip my shoes on. Did that to me 3 times. I finally just took off and tried to work it out as I ran. Oh well.
Run
  • 24m 48s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

HORRIBLE!! I felt like I was dehydrated the whole time. When I took drinks from the aid station though, I thought I was going to throw it back up. Had stomach cramps throughout the last segment. Was utterly pissed off because I was lagging.
What would you do differently?:

NOT USE THAT DAMN GEL AGAIN!!!!

:)
Post race
Warm down:

Ate watermelon and Bannana and water. Felt better almost immediately. Light stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not 100% sure, but for now I am blaming the Clif gel giving me an upset stomach. Oh well, live and learn.

Event comments:

As always, HFP puts on a good race. The first wave took off about 5-10 minutes late, but it is to be expected with 500 participants total. Overall good race!

It must have been the humid conditions. I was at this race too, and my stomach cramped on the run. Congratulations!
