Subject: Ironman care package -- what would you want?

Hey everybody,

My dear friend is going off to race Ironman Lanzarote in May, and she will have no friends, family, or supporters with her.  I want to make up an awesome care package to send to her hotel that will be waiting for her when she arrives.  I would like it to include a variety of things: food/snacks, useful stuff for the race, and cards/CDs/inspiration.  But I need your help!

If you were going off to race a (rather brutal) Ironman course alone, what would you be delighted to receive from your friends back home?

Thanks!!

Cards from her friends to read while in the hotel.  Has she read the book "Becoming an Ironman?"  Very inspirational and a good read before a race.  Some music.

A bottle of champagne for the morning after.

Ah, this is like me at IMAZ.

Besides the usual things, a list of BT'er events that she can join like the pre-swim, pre-ride, etc. so she won't feel so alone. Maybe even a BT'er who will go out of their way to meet up with her.

I really like the above ideas too. To add something else, how about a pic of you (and maybe more of her friends and family) holding the kind of signs you would have had on the course if you were there? Or maybe recorded cheers from all of those people. I think that would be pretty awesome to include in addition to the massage and comfort food

Wow, what great ideas everybody!  I especially love the idea of recording cheers and sending pics of the signs we WOULD hold if we were there.  You guys rock!

The recordings are a great idea.  We used to do talking letters for my brother when he was in the Navy and he loved them.

I was going to say a picture or two. She can pack those on her bike, etc and carry all of you with her all day long. And when she gets to a low point, your pictures can perk her up.

I might also add some really nice bubble bath in the care package... for before/after the race.

That's so rough that she won't have anyone there... make sure she gets hooked up with BTers for support!

What about one of those mini self-massagers?

Maybe a silly "chick" novel to read if she's bored. Something that doesn't require a lot of thought but has a good plot.

How about a funny top 10 list? Top 10 things you could be doing right now instead (1. Watching "American Idol Rewind" and remembering Simon way back when) as a joke. Or top 10 things that people will say to her after she finishes the Ironman. (1. You went HOW far? In one day?)

Possibly a picture of her favorite athlete or someone who inspires her. Maybe one of those mini books of inspirational quotes.

Or, as a joke, a Supermarket tabloids.

This would be nice. Send her a message that she has a massage waiting for her.

Inspirational notes from everyone who believes in her.

One friend here on BT lost about 100 pounds training for his Ironman and put his "before" picture in his transition bag ~ believe me, THAT was inspirational.

I am all for writing a note of encouragement to her, maybe even accompanied by a photo.  You could either post it onto a web site that she can access the night before or you can print it out and give it to her before she leaves.  She would probably be tickled pink to receive notes of encouragement from other triathletes.  What is her name?
