My wife just forwarded me this IM exchange... Miriam is Mom, at work, Mason is Dad, at home with the little guy. You could probably go ahead and substitute me and my wife's name in there, or any new mom and dad, for that matter. It made me laugh, anyway.

Miriam: What is he wearing?
Mason: PJ's
Miriam: Right, but where did you get them?
Mason: Dirty hamper
Miriam: Why?
Mason: They looked clean
Miriam: He wet through them last night, that is why they were in the hamper
Mason: Oh, that is why he smells like pee then.
Miriam: Um, yup!

Been there, done that.  IMHO, if it's dry, it's clean!  Beats having a half naked child run around all day.

That is a very funny exchange. Don't think that won't come back as a point to your incompetence in 5 years when you send them to school forgetting to put a napkin with their lunch.

Last night in the car on the way to the pool at the gym w/kids.

Julia:  What's a ankle?
Me:  The ankle connects your foot to your leg.
Julia:  What? - she's in the 3rd row of the van so I repeat -
Me:  The ankle connects your foot to your leg.
Julia:  What?
Me:  The ankle connets your foot to your leg.
Julia:  I know.
Me:  Grrrrrrrr (lucky she's so dang cute)

Yesterday I had some interesting conversations with my kids over dinner at IHOP, but I think the most stimulating was "If you could be any kind of rock, what kind of rock would you be?".

At dinner the other night... my 6 year old:

Colin:  "This is really good mom, what is it?"
Me:  "It's pork tenderloin"
Colin: "Is it a pork chop?"
Me: "Similar, same type of meat"
Colin:  "I can't remember what kind of animal pork comes from.  Is it a squirrel?"

Squirrel.  It's what's for dinner.

Big Mac:  "Buddy, make sure you finish your homework"

LIttle Mac:  "Oh, I already finished it.  I had to do a report on who I think is a hero and I picked you because you take care of me"  *at which point he shows me his report which includes drawing a picture of a medal to give your hero, so he draws a medal that says "#1 Dad"

(not really a funny story, but definitely worth sharing)

This made me think of my 3 year old son. He eats so much pork roast, he's been dubbed a Pork-Roast Eating Machine! Boring to others, but it melts our hearts.
