Subject: newbie needs a bike
I am overweight(240), new and tri-ing to get in shape. I am currently riding a GT mtn bike and looking at getting a Trek 1500. Seems like a bike for a beginer that will hold me for a couple of years.

Any thoughts on this bike, good or bad

Thanks

The Trek 1500 is a good solid road bike; it is strong enough for a bigger rider and will last indefinitly if it is well maintained. You do realise, however, that it is a recreational road bike and not a performance bike; the frame geometry is a bit more relaxed than a racing frame. In other words, it is built for comfort and not for racing. But, as a beginner that should not be too much of a concern for you. If you had rather purchase a performance bike, however, take a look at he 2100; it is $350 more, has a carbon racing frame, clipless pedals and is similarly equipped components as the 1500.
