Hi, all! I am happy to say that I have just begun to participate in the tri lifestyle. The reason this came about happened as an extension from wanting to quit smoking and wanting to lose weight, by means of exercising (Power 90/Beach Body prgram) and dieting. Glad to say, that since I started, I have kicked the habit (after nearly twenty years), and I managed to lose 27 pounds. I have always loved swimming, running, and biking and I guess, since I've turned 40, It seems as though I've got my second wind and I want to accomplish some of the things that I have only dreamed about.

So, I'm glad to be here and if anyone is in the Harrisburg, PA, area, give me a shout-out.

Welcome!  Good for you - those are awesome accomplishments.  I used to live in Harrisburg - but no more!  Are there any tri's there?

Yeah, Ron! I plan on working my way up to olympic distance - can't say that I'm too keen on ironman type distances, maybe half, but that will depend on training.

As for training, I've been biking (10, 20, 30, or 40 mi -- on mtb for some time, now) and just recently started incorporating running (after losing weight and an mri diagnosing a problem I have been having with my knee -- chondromalasia, grade 3). Currently, I am plodding through 5k, but I am trying to transition into a good form that satisfies my knee -- I have a tendancy of pushing too hard at times. I will soon start to incorporate swimming, but will have to join the local ymca for a beginners class, first.

Today, I did a brick which consisted of a 40 minute run and then a 60 min bike. Again, I had to tell myself to take it easy on the bike because I just wanted to work out the kinks in my legs and to enjoy the ride.

We just recently had a sprint distance called the "capcity catfish triathlon": It was the 1st anual and was held off of "city island", if you remember that. The swim took place at the north beach head area, in which the participants swam (counter-clockwise) to the south end of the island, or "west shore". The bike was a 15 mile haul from city island to fort hunter and back via front street. The run was a 2.5 mile run on city island.

This was the first time I had the opportunity and pleasure to witness this kind of event (triathlon) in the real. And it was a treat to witness the many different faces, body types, ages, etc...

Funny that you mention you used to live here. I used to live in Denver ('93 -'94, '96 - '00) and doing what I am doing now (triing) I kind of wish I was back there, at least for the good trails!
