I am looking for a 50cm or less road bike for my 11 year old son. 8 or 9 sp, sora or better components. 650 OK but prefer 700. Do not need pedals or seat.
He is just under 5' and will be using it for kids tri's maybe a sprint and charity rides.
I think 50cm is going to be huge on a 5' tall kid. You probably need a kid sized bike, like a 39cm or 42. My wife is 5'2" and she fits on 43/42cm bikes. You might want to take him down to the bike shop and have him stand over a few bikes.
He has a Trek KDR1000 now, that is a 40cm frame. I have the seat post about 6" high now and he is cramped on it. Remember, a kids frame also has a short top tube and 24" wheels.
I 47-50 may be slightly too big today, but tomorrow just right!!!

Thanks.
Joe, as I told you on the phone yesterday he is welcome to ride our 50 cm Trek 1000 and see how it fits. Also, Kylie's tri bike is a 47 and I'm sure she wouldn't mind him taking it for a loop or 2 at MP to see how the fit is there. Just let me know when. Are yall riding this weekend?
