Dining:  There are a ton of places in downtown Naperville to go to eat that are within walking distance.  Whizzzz had mentioned Noodles&Co -- that's just down the street from the Mongolian BBQ, I believe.  As far as Mong. BBQ goes, I am a spice wuss and can get stuff there that doesn't make me think my mouth is on fire.

Perhaps we can make a decision about lunch after we've met up and have an idea of how many and what people have a taste for?

Swimming:  I'll find that out tomorrow when I head there to swim.

Meeting Spot:  I was thinking that we could all meet (assuming it's set up the same as it has been in past years) by the board where race numbers are posted, since that's the first thing you need to do to get your packet.  I think I've got some BT Temp Tattoos sitting around, so maybe I'll slap one of those on my leg so I'm easily recognizable.

Preliminary list of people who will be meeting at the expo at 1pm (did I miss anyone??):
StartingToTri (Laura)
Lyoshka (Lena)
lvnewbie (Lisa)
miami9296 (Amy)
BAMBAM66 (Beth)
Whizzz (Laura)
Steph883 (Stephanie)

Ya, I'm excited to meet everyone!! Laura-thank you to you and anyone else I am forgetting to mention for helping organize all of us!!

I am excited for Sunday, and hoping it's not going to be as hot as yesterday!!

Also hoping that my goggles don't fog up, I don't have an anxiety attack in the water, that I am able to get into my shoes/clips ok, that my side doesn't cramp up on the run....

I think that's it...

Seriously though, am looking forward to meeting everyone!

The Puppy Pack will be in North Aurora for a birthday party, starting at 11:30a.  We can meet with a group for dinner (if there is to be a group dinner) and are looking forward to it.  Will keep checking back to see if there’s a definitive dining spot chosen.  If not, will give out contact information so we can find the group…whatever size it may be.

Hi all - Thought it was time I chime into this thread.  I'll definitely plan to meet up with you all at the expo, but will probably try to get there a bit earlier because I see that Nicole DeBoom is doing a transition clinic at 12:30p and I'm a big Nicole (and Tim) DeBoom fan!  Most likely won't stick around for lunch because we have a lot to get done on Saturday, but look forward to meeting you all at the expo!  Is it Friday yet?

I'd love to come jockstrap for all the ladies in the group but alas I'll be back home in Omaha! Everybody do well and to the first-timers, remember, it's only 90 minutes (or so) of your life!!!

UPDATE!!

Swimming:  I asked and they said that the pool would be open until 8pm on Saturday.  The beach area closes at 5pm (which is not where you'd be doing your swims anyway) so they can start setting up for the tri.  I was a little skeptical that after 5pm you'd be able to swim, but they assured me (I had the girl go ask someone else, in fact) that it would indeed be open.  If you get there after 5pm, admission is $3.  Before 5pm is $10.

Preliminary list of people who will be meeting at the expo at 1pm (did I miss anyone??):
StartingToTri (Laura)
Lyoshka (Lena)
lvnewbie (Lisa)
miami9296 (Amy)
BAMBAM66 (Beth) & McFuzz
Whizzz (Laura)
Steph883 (Stephanie)
jschmitchicago (Jen)

And Tupuppy and family for possible dinner plans!

Oh - and if anyone would like my cell phone number for Saturday to make it easier to meet up, just PM me!

Lyoshka - 2007-06-17 6:30 AM Hey ladies... anybody know if it'll be ok to use the Ipod? I know a lot of races "prohibit" participants from using them, but I see people with headphones all the time and recently, started using them myself on running races.... but not sure how it all works with a tri?

The bike course is crowded, so an iPod is definitely not a good idea. You will get run over if you're not able to hear those around you.

I suppose you could use one on the run if you wanted. Better to take in the scenery and say hello to fellow runners! Soak it in! It's a great experience!

x2...  also, it's only a 5k and there will be plenty of people around you to chat with if you need something to distract you.  And personally, my transitions are harried enough without also having to remember to pick up the iPod and attempt to put it on while running and not trip and fall all at the same time!

I'm just worried about getting it all done!!  Why add extra pressure to an already pressure-filled day?!?!?

thanks, ladies... i was thinking the same thing, but wanted to double check.  With the running races, there are no  gear and no transitions to deal with..... i'll probably leave it at home.

It will be the entire Puppy Pack, so yes you can drool over the newborn.  Just no eating of the baby.  If Whizzzzz is there, Soraya will need to be protected from the baby eater.

I was thinking about seeing how much I could freak you out but decided that wouldn't be too nice of me. lol.  The water is pretty warm.  High 70's - low 80's maybe?  Let me put it this way:  I started swimming around 6:30 on Tuesday, and when the sun started going down a little, it was warmer being in the water than out of the water.  Very comfortable (for me, at least -- I like my water warm, though).  Last year, this race started out pretty cold and rainy and the swim was nice because it was MUCH warmer in the water!

I promise not to eat her but I will tell you that I absolutely LOVE little girls (probably because I only have boys) and will wnat to hold her for a little while.  Don't get carried away---I won't take her home or anything.  Mine are too close to being out of the house that I don't want to start over again!!

Everyone ready for this weekend??!?  I can't wait to race... I can only train so much before I need a shot of adrenalin/competition to get me going again.

Can't wait to meet everyone!  Hopefully, it won't be raining on Saturday ... forecast for Sunday is still looking really good, though!

I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.  I'm going to start putting all my stuff in my tri bag today.  As of right now, it is sitting in a pile and that pile keeps growing.  I'm soooo afraid of forgetting something.  BUT I definitely don't want to be like our friend, John, who took a bucket to sit on (filled with stuff), 1 huge gym bag filled, and 2 shopping bags of stuff!!! It took us three trips to get everything from his car to transition!

What do you guys think about bringning sunscreen for the bike/run?  I can't decide if I want to take the time to put it on in transition.  It's not like it's going to affect my ranking or anything.

On another note, my 2 14 y/o's are coming with us.  Theya re hoping to see other girls there that are the same age.  My guess is that they will be looking at all the younger athletes too!!!!

For my first couple of tris, I DEFINITELY over-packed.  Now I've got it worked out a little bit better, at least.  My backpack is STILL overly stuffed, though... old habits die hard...   There is now a race gear list generator on this site somewhere... a very similar one can be found here.

Sunscreen:  I put waterproof/sport sunscreen on before the race and don't worry about it after that for a sprint distance.  I figure if my wave goes off before 8am (which it should... I think I'm wave 15, so I'm looking at around 7:45-ish), I'll be done by around 9:30-10:00 so my exposure shouldn't be too bad.

Okay, reconfirmed with Jenn last night.  The birthday party in North Aurora is from 11a-2p.  Not sure of our arrival time at the part and how long we are staying.  Part of that, I think, will depend on the groups gathering time for lunch and/or dinner.

So, other than what I read about meeting at 1pm at the expo, is there a planned time for lunch and/or dinner??  Location??

Mr. McFuzz gave me a cell number.  I think I still have Laura's (StartingToTri).

That race check list is really cool! Well I was an idiot yesterday and slipped off a stair while carrying a box. I am limping around - with the side of my right foot sore. I have a brace so I am hoping it will be okay and will try a short run later today. Hopefully it will be okay.

Yup - they're here.  All you youngin's start after me ... I think you're in wave 17.  What isn't posted is the actual wave start times -- that I think is only available once you get to the expo.
