I hope you're happy, Trent. Your procrastination led to their failure.

Seems like there would be a market for a magazine aimed at beginners and age groupers. Go figure.

I recently picked up a copy of both Inside Triathlon and Triathlete Magazine this past weekend which I have avoided doing since I trust my fellow BT'ers and their opinions. I will say for all the crap the people on these boards give these two publications about only containing advertising and featuring nothing but professionals you guys are a bunch of whiners. Regardless of the pro features I found a bunch of useful information in both issues. And regret not having looked into them earlier.  If you've hesitated reading them because of bad reviews I recommend picking up a copy and deciding for yourself.

I subscribed, have received two issues.  They also were supposed to send me a race belt for my subscription.  Never received the race belt, so I called.  They said it would come with the October issue--well I can kiss that goodbye!!!!!  They knew they were going under and a new pub was taking over in October when I phoned.

Soup,

Trust me when I say that Triathlete especially earned it's negative feelings from the Tri community. Most magazine try to remain objective and keep the editorial side away from the advertising side. However, Triathlete was promoting "articles" that were BLATENT advertisements for specifc products. It was especially noticable becuase IMMEDIATELY following the article was advertisement for the same "recommended" product. The "article" was also written by owner of the company of the product being advertised. I wish I remember the specific product (some kind of nutritional supplement.), but it was so outragous.

The last couple of months have been better (or at least not as blatent). I subscribe to both, and I enjoy reading them. However, I have also heard from many long term triathletes that the articles tend to repeat after a couple years. I shall see.

I guess I'm a whiner. Maybe we should submit them both for a Pulitzer.

Well Im speaking in reference to training tips/articles. I try to avoid product reviews in any publication because of the problem you state. The manufacture is probably an advertiser. Giving them a pulitzer would probably be a little overkill though a nice plaque would suffice.

I also subscribed, and hardly ever got an issue. Oh well.

I guess that I am a total geek, I just love looking at the pictures in the tri mags.

I bought both mags for the first time over the weekend. American tri had an article from the editor explaining that they had a new format because a new publishing company had bought them. They were hoping for wider distribution. There was also an interesting letter to the editor complaining about articles pushing products. The letter asked for journalistic integrity and the editor responded something like we're not journalists we're in the magazine business. That pretty much made me toss the magazine. I'm finding much better practical information on sites like this one then out of the magazines.
