Anyone out there change to tires better designed for racing prior to an event? If so, what brand and size? At my LBS, I was sold on Vittorio 700 x 20/23C's. What exactly does the 20/23C mean?

I intend to ride on these tires several times prior to my event this weekend, but can you tell me how I should expect these tires to handle differently? Can I expect any appreciable speed differences?

They were dang hard to put on so I hope the effort was worth it.

I do fine racing on the same tires on which I train, specifically the Michelin ProRace2s (in red, of course). Doubt if you'll see any "appreciable speed differences" unless you're training with knobbies.

20 or 23 is the tire width, not sure what the designation "20/23C" means. What model Vittorias?

Thanks for the response, bear.

They're Pave EVO CG's (green sidewall, much as I of course would have preferred the RED.) Know anything about 'em?

Tubulars? Don't know nothing 'bout no tubulars.

>$100 EACH??? At that price they better be fast!

Nah, they're clinchers. I looked too fast at the website-- saw the green sidewalls and thought those were the ones.

They must actually be the Corsa EVO CX's. They were about $60 each.

That's better, but my tightwad analytical A$$ still computes them to be twice the cost of the Michelins. Better be some extra speed in there somewhere!

I also ride the Michelin ProRace2s (700X23c), on both my training and racing wheels, and on my road bike as well. The tires on my racing wheels are for racing only so they have low mileage.

I used to ride 20s, back in the day, and they were fast as they have very low rolling resistance. However, I found them to be much harsher than the 23s. And, on a long ride, that makes a difference, to me.

Was the "20/23C" designation in a catalog list, or actually printed on the tire?

If the former, it could mean that the tire is available in either the 20 or 23 width.
