I am doing a 5K this weekend. Anyone else racing? Hoping to PR my 5K and then go hang at David's and watch Kona.

I've got family in town & my last LSD before the White Rock half, so no racing here.

I went 21:59 (hoped to break 22:00) for 5K.  They messed the course upslightly and I got to run on the service road to the highway.  I am using the time my garmin showed at 5K since they had us run longer.

Happy holidays everyone, I just wanted to update, I officially signed up for the
Timberman in August. There were less than 200 spots open yesterday and after a call from my friend, I made the plunge. 257 days left before my first half!!!!!!!that should be enough time I hope. :') Anyone else doing Timberman? See ya,
Kevin

Congrats Kevdia on signing up for a big race! That's the way to do it..just sign up and train like crazy. You'll be ready for it!

Ken--nope, no Tony Hawks, though Josh was a skateboarder in school and took a lot of heat for it. Someone else told me he looks like Lance Armstrong. He just looks like Josh to me And there is almost nothing broken or needing a man's attention left in my whole house I can even park in my garage now!

We are getting our second snowstorm tonight. Aren't you Texans jealous??

Not jealous at all.  I am actually from PA so I am used to snow and can't stand it.  70 degrees today and if I had time perfect riding weather.

Looks like I won't be doing the full marathon in January. First, I don't have my long run numbers up there....AND.....datada.....I'm pregnant!! Well, I'm 41. Josh is almost 35 and is one of those incredibly rare never been married no kids dudes. So, though this is putting the cart before the horse, we actually planned this! I'll be concentrating on the swim and just doing really mellow jog/walking this winter. Bike on trainer will work for awhile too, til the belly gets in the way, and then I spose I can pedal sitting upright.....so, my new goal is to do the same indoor tri I did last year in March and beat my old times pregnant. It's a super sprint of 400y/5m/2m so that shouldn't be too drastic a goal.

Anyone else have any earth shattering news to share??

Wow!  Congratulations!   You'll have all other kinds of priorities besides triathlon now!  I'm happy for you.

Dave or anyone,
With my half ironman some nine months away, how would you suggest I train during the next few months in regards to distance, intensity etc. Most of the programs I found are 90 or so days long, should I repeat them a few times or complete a 90 day program and continue adding to it. Thanks in advance.

First of all, you're going to have a blast at Timberman.  It's a great race, one of the best I've done!

Secondly, it's WAY WAY to early to start any formal training program for any race that's 9 months away.  You definitely should not repeat your 90 day program multiple times, b/c it should have you peaking near the end of of those 90 days, and then you'll need to have some serious recovery time after that peak.

Anwyay, I suggest you try to find another "A" race about 4 months or so before T-man, and then follow a training plan that will prepare your for that A race in April or so.  Then take a few weeks of active recovery and then start your 90 day plan for T-man.  An Olympic triathlon or even a half-marathon could be a good choice.  You could even go for something like a century rally.

If you start focusing in on T-man now, you'd definitely be burned mentally out by mid-August.  By training for an OLY or even a longer cycling event like a metric or full century, you be forming a good base on which to build a foundation for your Timberman training.

Praise...I need a little praise here...I swam a 2000 on Thursday and it wasn't fast, but at least I was in the water and moving my arms and legs. And I jogged a little today and even warmed up my poor little neglected bike which I discovered has a front flat tire and the computer wasn't registering so it was NOT gratifying to pedal it. Luckily Josh fixed it...whew...so I will venture back on it again soon. My point....I am soooooo tired these days. I fall asleep on the couch after shopping and I put the kids to bed at 8:30 and fall asleep too and wake up at 6 am and I'm still tired! I forgot how exhausting it is to grow a tadpole. My butt is getting flabby too. Hence the get back on it kick. My belly is allowed to grow....anything else is NOT! I'm even eating raisins and spinach and trying to figure out how to mash up liver and hide it in pork and beef meatballs. Maybe I'll get really brave in a few months and post a pic of my tri belly

Anyone doing any winter races?

How's the Christmas shopping going? I might start logging my shopping walking minutes!

I don't know if this forum will be up and running much longer so I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who was a part of it. Because of this forum, I have been bitten hard by the tri bug and now have my 2008 season lined up culminating with a HI in august. Thanks again to Dave and everyone!
