Subject: 9/23/07: 1st Annual Extrememan HIM (Madison!)
Come and experience the first annual Extrememan Triathlon on Sunday September 23, 2007 in Madison, Connecticut. This memorable half iron distance race will be held along the scenic coastline at Hammonasset State Park.

A portion of all proceeds from the Extrememan Triathlon will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to help our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends fight this terrible disease. Click here if you would like to make a direct donation to the Alliance.

A 1.2 mile swim begins at the park in Long Island Sound followed by a 56 mile bike course through the autumn colored rolling hills of Connecticut, and ending with a two loop 13.1 mile run through the park. The course is flat and fast and will afford participants a spectacular view of the coast, marsh, and nature preserve.

The event promises to be challenging and rewarding. ...

I'm busy that day doing a different CT HIM...this one is closer to my house though.

Ocean swim....I'd opt for nice lake any day. Very cool fund raiser.

I can't decide on doing the Extrememan or the Washington State Half Ironman.....I am leaning towards the latter. Only because they mention it has a flat ride. My last A race of the season is Parkcity or Cranberry so only 5 weeks to bridge to the Half Iron Man which wil lbe a B race, my goals for this race will be to A/ Finish and B/ Go under 6 hours.

Anyone want to help me out here in making a decision. I live in fairfield county and have never been any further North than Danbury....

Cheers JG

I have trouble believing that a bike course in Litchfield county (where Washington is located) could be flat...

My vote would be to do Extrememan, especially if you have a goal of sub-6. I think doing C-Berry will put you in good shape for this as they are both fairly flat courses and, with a five-week bridge, you can recover one week then finish your build for the HIM.

Polly/ Captain,

Thxs for your input, that is great I have no Fkin idea about the geography/topography over here as moved over here last September from Europe.

Polly - See below blurb from the Washinton State Half on the bike course.

"begin the rolling, scenic bike course. The first and last sections are fairly flat. The middle section of the bike is rolling with a few noticeable climbs through quaint New England farmtowns" Sounds a bit similar to the description of the extermeman.

I must admit I am starting to lean towards doing Cranberry over parkcity, as the thought of doing 45 flat laps at bridgeport will drive me nuts 8-)

Thxs for your advice.

FK THAT!!!

C-Berry is an EXCELLENT race and there will be A LOT of fellow BTers there, both racing and jocking. In my opinion, if you can fit C-Berry into your schedule, there is no choice to make!

Thxs - And also I here Cranberry has beer afterward which is a big tick for me as I know Parkcity doesn't. 8-)

The above should read 5 laps not 45 laps. Imagine doing 45 laps you would have to me the energizer bunny.

Ok so it sounds like I might see you guys all at Cranberry. Probably bring my tribe, we will alll be easily recognisable as my kids will be the ones breaking things 8-)

Does Cranberry sell out early or can you book fairly late?

James, that part of the state is commonly referred to as "The Litchfield Hills" because, you guessed it, it's very hilly! My guess is they are describing the course that way because they know people will see where the race is and think Litchfield=Hills. Also, Washington is a pain in the a$$ to get to. There is no such thing as a highway up there.

5 laps, 45 laps, more than two around one course is way too much!!!

The earlier you can get into C-Berry, the better! See you there.

So I am actually considering doing this one.  Timing seems to be good relative to recovery from LP and August family time, close to home so limited travel/hotel, etc.  Flat and fast which is just what I'll be looking for after hilly and slow LP.

While it IS cool that there are now 2 70.3 events in CT I have some serious doubts about how well a 1st annual event's organization could be.

It depends on who is running the event, which I can't determine...

Yep! I just hope that the Moose isn't gone by the time I hit the finish line. I may ask for a refund if that happens.

The RD/race management company isn't even owning up to the event yet in their own forum. Weird.

I might be interested in doing this one, however I was thinking that my last tri for the season was going to be Lake Placid.

Same with me but I know the area they are going to cover in this one and it should be a nice, and fast, event--just hope it's well organized...

Hi All - A very kind BTer sent me the mapped out route plans for Extrememan and the Washington State. OK get ready for it. Bike climb as follows.

1/ Washington State - 2 loops x 1,345ft = 2,690 Total

2/ Extrememan - 1 loop = Total 4,015 Feet Total.

I have both routes stored in my log under the Route function if you want to take a look. Click on the map elevation button. The extreme man profile looks like Everest.  Given most of you are doing Placid probably not an issue but as this is a B race for me and I will only have a 4 week bridge from my last Olympic. I am going to do Washington State.

Cheers

Holy Crap! I didn't see the "detailed map" before. They have the course going all the way into Durham?!?!? There are some MUCH BETTER (flatter) roads down that way than the route they have planned!

I'm doing this race as my A end of season. It looks to be fun. Very close to one of my friends houses. Bonus! Just getting back into it this season after doing Madison IM the first year.
