Subject: Taper and a long bike ride?
Hey Folks,

I have my first race (A 5 mile run) this coming Sunday and I'm on a taper for that this week. Of course, I have to run 6 miles tonight because I took a rest day yesterday. But, I'm also considering a long bike ride Tues morning. (Long for me is about 25 miles.) Do you think it would be okay for me to do the ride, at an easy pace, or should I skip it? (Does the taper for a run include tapering back cycling as well?)

Thanks for any advice and best of luck with your training.

Rob

You'll be OK, a 25-mile ride five days before a 5-mile run should be non-consequential. I've done a 70+-mile ride the day before a 10K run, and PRed. Just remember there are triathletes out there that do a marathon after a 112-mile bike ride (preceded by a 2.4-mile swim)

I don't know, but I hope it's not a problem. I did a 125 mile bike ride yesterday -just noodling along, no real speed. And I have a race on Sunday. I THINK it'll be okay.....

taper is a personal thing, some people do slow long stuff, some people have loadsa time off i like to shorten everthing and keept intensity up i find this produces the best results for me and i feel ready to tear the course apart come race day, but it just depends on what taper works for you

Depends on how long your race is. I did a 22-mile run a week ago, felt the effects of that for a few days, but raced a sprint yesterday with no problems.

Now if my race was a half IM...
