So, I'm 6'1" and currently in the 186-188lbs range these days. However, I anticipate gaining back some upper body muscle mass this fall and winter that I lost during the past 4/5 years. So, my weight previously and what I hope to get back to weighing is a lean 195-200lbs.

With that in mind, I tried on 3 different wetsuits @ Cadence in Manayunk, PA. I tried on the Blue Seventy Energie, the Orca Sonar, and the Zoot Z1 -- all in full sleeve. I was told that the Zoot M/L size fit me best, but they didn't have a L size. So a couple days later, I went to a different place to try the L. I tried on the L, and I thought that fit me better. I didn't notice much space or gaps or difference, and so I purchased a L from online.

I got my order the other day, and now I am not sure that it fits very well. I have a small gap at the lower part of my back just above my butt. I hiked the suit up pretty far, to the point where it felt like it was beginning to intrude into my butt crack. And then, there was some space in my crotch area, around the front of my hip where my leg comes right into my hip. Also, when I bend over, the suit material forms some rolls/folds in the abdominal area.

Should I go with the M/L instead? But, if I exchange the L for the M/L Zoot Z1, and I hit my target weight this coming winter, will the M/L then be too small?

Can anyone comment here, please & thanks ahead of time.

It's hard to say. I'd say a knowledgeable store would be better than here. However, when I bought my wetsuit, I did email the manufactuer with my measurements, like chest width, inseam, hip and waist length, etc. and then they emailed me with a size they recommended.

I think it's best to email Zoot.

Here is what I learned about wetsuits... it all changes when you get in the water and SWIM in them. Most places let you have 1 free swim in the wetsuit.

Go swim in the Large and see how it goes. If that doesn't work out, go smaller... or try a different brand. That is what I did.

Here is my wetsuit saga:
-------------------------------------------------

I have bought, tried on, and swam in the following brands:

Blue Seventy (BS)
QR
2XU
Zoot
Desoto

Yea, I have had a time finding a wetsuit that fit me right, can you tell? I am also being really picky about my wetsuit, because I'm a good swimmer and a cheap wetsuit will slow me down, and I will be bothered by it.

BS is a nice wetsuit. For women, it's good because it's cut for someone with booty and boobs. That is what I needed. The neoprene is nice and I didn't have any issues with the one I rented for a race. Shoulders were flexible. I bought the Energie. It's still a toss up if I'm going to keep this one or not. http://www.trisports.com/blseenfuwe.html

QR is a really nice wetsuit too. Honestly, I liked this neoprene the best. It was just different. Very flexible. This wetsuit is made for someone with beefy legs and a large chest (not necessarily big because of boobs!). The size that should have fit me, was HUGE on me. If you are a beefy guy, this would be a good wetsuit for you. http://www.trisports.com/qr20hytrwe.html

2XU is a nice wetsuit. No complaints really. It was just cut for someone who is very thin without any hips, boobs, or a booty. If you are a thin guy/gal with very little "sticking out" muscle wise, etc. this wetsuit would be good. I think I got this one on sale: http://www.trisports.com/2xueltrwe.html

Zoot Zenith is a VERY NICE wetsuit. Totally different from all the other ones. It has these pieces of boyancy swen into the inside of the wetsuit. None of the other wetsuits are like this one. Unless you see a picture of the inside of the wetsuit, you don't really understand how different it is. I am thinking I will end up keeping this one. It's flexible and I could swim in it just fine.

Desoto is an OK wesuit. Not very innovative. Compared to the other ones, I would rank this one the lowest. The bib john was odd and pulled up into my crotch (fit issue). The top was a pain to get on and then it fit oddly around my boobs. A lot of people love this wetsuit, but fit wise it didn't work for me.

In the end though, buying a wetsuit is ALL ABOUT FIT. Each brand is cut differently and fits differently. Just because you fit the "size" on the chart, doesn't mean it will work for you in the water.

KSH-I don't see to many (or any) women in the desoto 2 piece.

I have a Blue Seventy Helix (yes, I am sponsored by them) and I bought it too big! Duh, I didn't realize that I had lost weight. I went by the chart and fell inbetween 2 sizes and sized up. I should have sized down. It fits in the legs fine, but when I swim, the water goes up the sleeves.

I like the BS Helix becuase the shoulders are very flexible and I don't have any more shoulder pain in my rotator cuff. In my old suit I would get pretty worn out from stroking and ended up training in the sleeveless and racing in the full suit.

Also the suits are supposed to be snug. They will feel better in the water. AND they will stretch out over time.

Hope this helps.

How did you get sponsored? What do you get for free?

In my signature is the TEAM TIMEX 2007. Blue Seventy is the wetsuit sponsor for the team. And no, it wasn't free. If you are a PRO, then its free. I still like the suit and would have paid retail for it anyway.

Go to http://teamtimex.timexblogs.com/?timexBrand=corefor more information.
