Living in Astoria, I can't find any easy escapes to either LI or upstate. ANyone know any roads less traveled that will take me out of Queens with minimal interruption and taxis? Or perhaps residential parts of Queens, if they exist?

The LIE service road East of Glen Cove Rd is pretty good. SUNY Old Westbury is a nice 4 mile loop with hills. Central Park esp off hours like late morning and night. Altheus in Rye is going to be having group rides on Sunday mornings for the Westchester Tri starting soon. Harriman State Park is just up the Palisades Pkwy, I would say about an hour drive but Its a tough 14 mile loop. If you make a day out of it and get a long 40-60+ mile ride, 1 hour is well worth it.

Edited- In Queens there are no areas except the Greenway Trails in Alley Pond Park and Cunningham. A buddy of mine used to ride the cemetaries in the Middle Village area. And there is a 5 mile path along the Cross Island.
