Subject: HRM transmiter battery?
Okay, so I'm pretty sure the battery in my (polar) hrm transmitter is bad. Can I change the battery myself, or do I need to send it to Polar or get a whole new transmitter? I'm also wondering how long the batteries typically last. I've had this one for about 6 months, and use it a couple times/week. Is that a normal life for one of these?

Thanks!

The battery is supposed to last for like 2 years (1 hr use/day, 365 days/year). That said, my Polar HRM strap battery seemed to die after like 6 months also. You can replace the battery yourself, but it's no longer waterproof if you do so. You can have Polar replace the battery to keep it waterproof, for like $15. Unfortunately, they require you send the wrist unit back with it! I just buy a new HRM strap when mine goes bad...it's more expensive, but it's quicker and beats not having the wrist unit (I have the footpod too, so not having the wrist unit means I lose everything).

Transmitter (on the strap) or the watch?

If its the transmitter, do you still have the box it came in.  My Polar had replacement rubber seals in a plastic baggie for the transmitter in the box.  I've replaced the battery myself twice and didn't have any issues with water.

Oh, I should add, I've replaced the battery in the watch unit once myself.  Hasn't leaked either!

One way to figure out if it's the strap or watch is to go to you gym and just use the strap and treadmill/bike/elliptical to see if it's working properly.
