Hey to all. Have decided to give this whole thing a tri with the ultimate goal of a 1/2. Got a few questions for the corwd with way more experience than me. I have been running 1/2 marathons so those are ok, swimming I can work on, right now it is 'not so much.....' Biking I have been doing a lot of mountian biking and commuting on my MB to work about 3 days a week. So question is what kind of bike to jump in with, I have a few $$ to spend but am not sold on a tri only bike vs a road bike. It was a done deal on a road bike then I heard of the Cervelo Soloist, anyone have any words on this or any other bike suggestions. Thanks

Meegs

I have just gone through the same thing. You really have to evaluate your priorities. If Triathlon is your only interest then I don’t see the harm in getting a triathlon specific bike. On the other hand, if you are like me and enjoy road riding as well, maybe the best choice is a road bike (they are a little more forgiving on the long rides). Speak to your local bike shop. It is possible to put aerobars on your road bike, but be careful – the aerobars might require you to adjust the rest of your bike in turn making riding on the drops uncomfortable. The tendency is that the aerobars are too far out – like if you put a stem that is too long on your bike. The bike pros should be able to help you with your questions.

Good luck and keep at it.

None yet, been working on building the endurance base, read ...getting my butt to the pool.... My brother law and I are looking way in the future for some tri's in Buffalo NY (his home) and VA Beach are (near me). Most of what I have seen is winding down for the winter, is that fairly standard??

As far as the bike goes, I have been to a bunch of bike shops and I am really leaning towards a road bike, specifically a Fuji Team. I am going to take a run to the Final Kick store in VA beach this weekend and check out the Cervelos and Tri Bikes.

Got the bike, found an 03 61cm Cervelo Soloist 105, being an 03 with the 05s around the corner got a great deal. Should be able to pick it up this weekend and get the fit from Final kick in VA beach, can wait it is driving me nuts......Got the aero bars and some DA pedals off Ebay
