Hello,

My name is Enrique and I found this site thanks to google. I recently had the fortune of being forwarded a video starring Rick and Dick Hoyt. I am sure most of you are familiar with the names. This is the father-son team that competes in triathlons and marathons regularly.

Over the past few months I had been toying with the idea of running a triathlon, and then I saw that video. Now I am no longer "toying" with the idea, but I have set myself a goal to complete my first sprint tri in 2008. I want to learn as much as I can from the experts (you) and prepare myself for this adventure.

That is all.

Have a nice day.

Welcome! Since you are in San Diego, you should check out the tri club of San Diego. They have lots of beginner races and clinics and who knows maybe you will be a triathlete in 2007. You will also find lots of info here at BT, so just ask

Hey, same here..... different reasons for starting but I am also a newbie. I started the "couch to sprint" 12 week course last week and plan to run my first event in San Dimas, CA Sept 30th. Not looking to race just finish and then we'll see how it goes.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'll look them up. I don't want to set myself unrealistic expectations, and at 222lbs and 29% body fat I know I will need to train hard to get where I want to be.

222 is nothing. You are in prime racing form

If you can swim, you can finish, trust me

That is actually my weak point. I can bike, I can run... swimming on the other hand, gets me tired quickly. I need to practice more. Who knows? maybe I'll be ready this year.

That is it. It is a great race for your first one. It was my first one years ago. The swim is in the bay and is a point to point swim, so if you get nervous you can just swim near the shore and walk (?) to the swim finish. There will also be swim buddys there so you won't be by yourself.

I'll tell you what. If you sign up for the race, I will be your personal Swim Buddy and get you through the swim. Promise

That's really nice of you. I am 70/30 going into 80/20 after reading this... I will most likely be there.

Last October Mission Bay was my first Tri and Madcow was there, although I didn't get a chance to meet him. Four months is plenty of time to get your swimming down. It was a fun race, who knows I might do it again if I don't have anything else on the docket.
