You better believe it bit me hard! I have worked out with weights for 20 years with no real plan...just to go to the gym. Now I can see improvement, go faster, run different distance races..I feel like a kid in a candy store there is sooo much to see and try. I never thought I would like anything better than football and it has been right in front of me. For those of us who miss the contact in football, anyone who thinks there is no "contact" in triathlon has never done an open water swim start!
An Oly was on the plan for this year actually. I had to back out of Pinehurst here in NC due to 2 things. One, my daughter was a week late and that cut into the training plan. The plan was already shortened due to a great deal of hurricane rain we have had here for the last month. However, the worst part was my pool closing unexpectedly for 2 weeeks in late Aug and the pool I was allowed to go to closing for a week at Labor Day! Swimming is by far my weak sport (no competitive background at all ) so I just said 'Thank you Lord" and did not ignore the obvious. I think I would have OK with a solid month of training but 2 weeks was not going to cut it. I will be ready next year. |
