Hello from Texas!

Its official, I signed up for my first triathlon race (Oct. 2007) and we just bought me a road bike on Wednesday. I’m really doing this!!

My husband has done 3 triathlons and after his first I starting thinking how much I would enjoy competing is one myself. I started training a little over six weeks ago and have been making progress in everything except the swim. We’ve just decided I should start taking swim lessons or find a swim coach ASAP. I’m defiantly going to do that so, maybe I’ll start feeling better about the swim soon.

To get ready for the race day experience, I plan on running a couple 5k and duathlon races before the Big day. I’m really looking forward to this because I haven’t competed in a sports event in 8+ years.

Anyway thanks for listen to me and I look forward to talking with all you guys!

Welcome to BT.  There are friendly people everywhere with a load of wisdom to share.  I think you've made the right choice in swim lessons, because feeling good during the swim can be a huge confidence builder.

You're going to do great!

Swimming lessons will help. I took all my swim training for granted. I swam on swim team until I was 13. I guess it stays with you because the swimming is easy for me, but it isn't for most people. I used to teach swimming lessons too. It is all about the technique. Also, you will not improve in swimming nearly as fast as you do in the running and biking, so don't expect HUGE progress. Where in Texas are you?

We leave in the DFW area. Thanks for the swimming tips and many more you can give me will be greatly appreciated! I’ve always been inpatient, so I’m going to have to learn patience along with swimming.

I'm in Austin, and I used to teach swimming (plus I swam on the swim team years ago), so if you have any questions, I'd be happy to try to help. Having someone watch you swim and give you tips is the best thing to do, though. Often there are OW swims and clinics you can pay for and go to. I there are a few here. My first tri is this Sunday (the Danskin)! I'm excited. I've already signed up for 2 more! I want to do the Austin Triathlon on Labor Day, which is an Oly, but I'm not signing up until after the Danskin just to make sure I'm not in over my head. I'm already registered for 2 other sprints, though, on July 1 and Aug. 5. Good Luck!!

There are lots of us in the DFW area! If you ever want to see if we are working out together or what not... check out the Texas Forum here on BT.

I'm a pretty good swimmer... and if you ever want to meet at the pool for some tips let me know. Yes, you will need to learn patience with swimming... but keep at it and you will get better.

Good luck with the training and welcome to BT!
