For the Suffolk County people...where is a good pool to train in?

Hicksville has 50 meter lanes. You just have to get there early because they remove the lane ropes for the kids in the afternoon. Holtsville keeps a twenty-five meter lane open for laps all day.
The weather is getting nice so you can always do open water. I live on the North shore and swim at West Meadow, Port Jeff, and Ceder Beach.

I've heard St. Joe's in Patchogue has a tri-club now... not sure if you have to belong to the club to swim there. Otherwise, check your local High or Middle Schools. Some towns that have a school pool also have an adult swim program...

Yes, Holtsville Y.  After my disappointing OWS at this past weekends Ironclad, I'd be down for meeting other BTers for OWS practice.  Incognito: I don't live far from Cedar Beach.

I looked everywhere to try to find a place to swim. The High School was only open 1 day a week and the Y in Holtsville was expensive. I ended up at a condo complex with a pool where my buddy lives. I think I waited to look to start training for the swim. I need to swim 500 yards in July and right now I'm sucking wind after 100.

Hinch45 just keep at it. You'll be amazed at how fast you could build your swim endurance. i remember struggling to swim 50 meters one day and then a couple of days later I was swimming a few hundred meters without stuggling.

Now that the summer is here I think Sunken Meadow is a great place to swim at in Suffolk County. I wish I lived closer. You always see other triathletes out in the water swimming, and an added bonus is you could get a good run in at Sunken Meadow. Cardiac Hill is always fun to run up.....Once

I think Runner's Edge has a group that meets at Sunken Meadow on Saturday mornings.  Call Runner's Edge and just ask if/when they are doing group swim.  I'm pretty sure anybody can join them.

I just started myself and joined the ymca in bay shore since its real close to my job. I have found my swimming to be improving rapidly. First day i hadda rest after 25m. 2.5 weeks later and i can swim 400m. I figure in 3 months ill either be a good swimmer or ripped. It kicks my butt..... either result is just fine.....just keep at it.

FYI: cedar beach is a great place to swim especially early in the morning when there are very few sunbathers there. There are also some great bike training rodes in the area, so a swim bike brick is convenient.

By the way, from the first buoy to the last is approx. 400-450 yards. Check this out:

The first buoy to the last lines up almost perfectly with the parking lot. I used the parking lot to get the swim distance.

Must have read my mind, as this is my plan tomorrow!  I'm off work, sitter wants to take our son 4 hours early and wife won't be home until 5pm! It's like the Perfect Storm of training days! Just hope I don't get arrested if I have to ask someone to help with my wetsuit zipper! Might actually do bike repeats all the way up Pipe Stave Hollow from Cedar Beach to Echo. Or just tool along North Country.
