Subject: CRASH - season's over

Spent the moring in the ER than the Ortho. I broke my collorbone badly. If I was elite they'd prolly operate. Guess I s/b happy I'm a MOP'er. out 6- 8 weeks min.

It happened so fast I'm not really even sure if this is right- took a nice shot to head too.

Kid was walking a dog on an extender leash. Dog took off after me. Kid stopped him, but I sped up in fear anyway. Took hard left turn then hit some gravel. I must've overcorrected bc I went right over the handlebars landing on my right shoulder and head. I was concious but out of it. Cops, EMS and my wife were on the scene quickly. Those people and the emergency room people were awesome! Those of you in that field truely are amazing - Thank you!

Hurts like a SOB. Percoset is on the way. And the bike looks o.k. We'll both live to race another day just not this year Frown

Doc said NYC or MCM w/b a good goal.

Be safe people and please always wear your helmet. I'm sure it saved me today.

Definitely glad you were being smart with the helmet so at least it wasn't any worse.

Rest up so you can have a great first marathon later this year!

Sorry to hear about your accident. Most of my friends who have broken their collarbones end up sleeping in a recliner for a few weeks. At least the Tour starts in July.
How is your bike?

Did they cut your helmet, shoes or cycling clothes? We have a club joke that if we're ever in an accident the other riders need to strip us before the ambulance crew shows up. Nothing like having the strap of your $$$ helmet or shoes clipped off!

Glad your okay!

Oh, man, so sorry to hear that . But, I am glad you were able to walk away as healthy as you did. If you need any "it," keep in mind that I'm a dealer .

Hang in there and recover fast. The 6-8 weeks will pass before you know it and then it's full on marathon training !

Sorry to hear that and glad you are okay.  I hate those stupid leashes and people who can't control their animals.

I was running one day and a kid on a bmx bike was walking his pitbull.  The dog started running at me dragging the kid on his bike.  I thought I was a gonner but the kid stop the dog about 5 feet from me.  Had to go home and change after that.

Man that sucks ...... you're on the same bus as Brian (except he did get surgery and a nice new metal rod in his shoulder).

But the good thing is ...... you will heal and come back more motivated to get back in form!  Here's wishing you a PR in recovery time! :raises beer:

Sorry to hear it, brother. I hope you heal quickly and can get back in the game soon.

I also find it the connection between your screen name and this incident sadly ironic.

Get better soon!

Slightly unfair statement to make.  If you NOTICED, the OP said that the kid stopped the dog but OP decided to sprint away anyway.  There is NOTHING wrong with extendable leashes.

To the OP--I'm SO glad your noggin' is okay and you will live to train another season!  That is what is really important.  Look at how fast TH3_FRB bounced back last year!  Take care of that wing and do whatever you can!

But this is an alarming trend...you are at least the THIRD BT'er I know in the last MONTH that has broken that bone...

I did notice the kid stop the dog, however, I still hate them.  I will cycle on a multi use path and people will use them and let their dogs run all over the place.  I am just waiting for the day I hit the leash with my bike and hurt my self, the dog or the owner.  Plus, having sent my dogs to trainers those things are horrible for actually training your dog.  They let the dog lead you instead of you leading the dog.  He because the alpha of the pack and you have no authority.  That being said they are nice for leisurily strolls through the neighborhood.

Ouch. I'm glad you're okay enough to type! You and brian should start a support group.
