I'm at 11,800 of my 18,000. That does not include the swim that I am determined to get in later today.

I'm at 5400, about 30% of my goal. Not bad since I've been out of town a lot. I've set aside time to swim for the rest of the week & weekend & inbetween sleep, since my legs and feet are shot. Besides, if it weren’t for the last minute, a lot stuff would never get done!

I have swam 8,800 of my 20,000 for 44%. Holy crap! Have to start swimming!!

However, if I do 2,000 tonight then I am just over 50%, and have....CRAP! ONLY 8 more days to swim!!!  Why did I think there were 2 weeks left?  Wait...does being at a water park ALL DAY count for ANYTHING?  I was IN water!!!

8 days or not.....I WILL meet my goal.

Approx 28500 of 35000 (81 %) and swimming.

This is the OFFICIAL swim week in my training plan, so watch out for tonight's jump. I hope to be at 100% tommorrow, so the rest is just pickup for our man down (aka Polar circus bear / ice swimmer

Counting water park time would be like me counting hot tub time. Don’t worry, you have plenty of time... you should start swimming next week... We'll accept you whether you hit your goal or not... The guys will probably accept you more if you don't.

I'm so ashamed! I'm only at 3600! I'm a disgrace to the swim challenge. I have a lot of work ahead of me. Now if we were doing a "Run" challenge.....

BTW.....I'm blaming all of this on my busy work week last week. I worked 7 days straight, and then I donated blood Monday, which left me dizzy and lightheaded (I didn't want to risk swimming/drowning). Am I excused?

18000/20000 = 90% done, one more easy swim tomorrow and then we're counting bonus points!! I guess recognizing the guys at Mountain Man won't be a problem after all if they're all wearing those tutus...

Keep it up girls!

I almost just had a swimming crisis. My log has details... my swimming cap almost went down the garbage disposal. And then I thought I broke the garbage disposal. I think all the pool chlorine is making me stupider than normal.

I'm done!

Last night's ESCKTC OWS put me over the top! Now I can shave, sleep, and finally cough the last of the lake and chlorine out of my lungs

I guess it is a little late to join in on this but I started swimming seriously just after the 8th and I have 12900 meters in the log (My niece the racer is coaching me and she is a fierce taskmaster!). I figure I am good for another 4400 before next wednesday is over though (including the Splash and Dash tomorrow). Incidentally, anyone know any good ways to get rid of dry scaly arms (other than cutting them off)? I haven't ever had to deal with this before as I never really have done regular swimming).

not going to be the fastest at the run seeing as running takes awhile to get back into and build up speed (started running again last month). As for swimming though, how will I do with a 2:20 -2:25 pace on an 800m swim? I have never done one of these before and it is a little nerve wracking. (I have kept a 2:10 pace before but figured I would estimate conservatively).

Paul:  First of all, welcome!

Second:  If this is your first time, just focus on enjoying the experience (and by the way, your swim pace is nothing to be ashamed of - you should see my training logs ).  Once you get a race or two under your belt, you can start trying to improve.  Speed will come with consistency, repetition, and time.

Why not call it an even 17000 for easy math...
As for the scaly arms various moisturizers help. My wife likes using coconut oil before showering. Most of the oilyness washes away, and it sets up a nice chlorine barrier.

2:20-2:25 is a respectable beginner pace. You'll be near the BoP but not DFL by a long shot. I'm a big proponent of forgetting about the time, and just work the form. I struggled for years to get back up to 1:30 (In college I could do 1:03), but still could only sustain it for maybe 500yds. My long distance time would average down to 1:50+. Giving up on the speed and repetition and working on form dropped me down to a 2min pace for 9months until things started clicking. Now I'm up to a long distance 1:40-1:45 avg.

Technique took me from 2:45 down to 2:10 in the last 3 weeks. My niece says by October's Fountain to Mountain we should shoot for 1:50. I figure since I have been going one month and I have three left that is probably doable. I know that initially speed can improve fast but that the progress will probably start slowing soon. I still get out of Breath easily. I have done a 1:56 lap but couldn't sustain it. I figure once my body adjusts to swim breathing I might see another little spike in speed.

I say you can join the challenge, but I think your goal should be 10,000. We could use the overage!

Cool, I am OK with any goal, 10000 would be cool as my overage would make me look like a super over achiever type guy.

My race went really well by the way. Started out next to last and slowly realed people in through the second half of the run, the transition and the second half of the swim. Still waiting on results but there were 6-7 people behind me in a group of about 30-40 by the time all was said and done. Amazing what you can do if you can just keep up the same pace or notch it up a little in the second half of race legs (I was amazed how many people I passed in transition as I figured everyone cruised through there). Anyway, it was a great race, my run time was the fastest yet and I didn't swim too shabby either considering I had just run my fastest 5k time since I started running again (On the run I exceeded my estimates by a few minutes, on the swim I managed to keep the exact pace I estimated even with the legs not recovering until the second 400m). Anyway, thanks for all the encouragement. Wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.
