I'd vote for pre-race.  About 615/620 ish might be good.  We should all be headed down to the swim start by then and the first our of our folks should go out about 634.

Pre or Post works for me. Sunrise isn't until 6:08am so it is going to be a little dark out there before the race.

(Tommy will probably be home on his couch by the time I cross the finish line).

You forgot to add "and drinking a beer."

Seriously, I don't have anywhere to go this time so I'll be around for a while afterwards.  And 615/620-ish, I'll be in the water.

Anybody interested in dinner Friday night? We're planning on meeting the Raleigh folks for dinner on the North side of town (NorthLake mall area). Who's in? Any family-friendly recommendations?

And for those coming in on race morning, I vote for a post-race meeting. Pre-race gets a little crazy.

When I did this race a couple of years ago they had draft beer as one of the after race drinks.

I've got training from 6-9pm on Friday or I'd gladly join you for supper.

I'd be up for meeting folks post-race, if I'm not sequestered or something.

Okay I am a Sunday person

#33 Heather

Really at first my goal was to just finish the race I am NOT a runner at all but I am hoping to do well on the swim/bike.

Swim: 11:30-12:00 (I did that time Sat at Lake Norman)
Bike: 60:00 or less or 16-17 mph average
Run: 40:00 (walk, run, jog)
Transitions: 5:00 (no idea here that may be too aggressive!)

I really am not sure what to expect---but I am nervous and excited!!!1

I wish all of you Sat people the best of luck!

Heather

I'm in. Five total if your making reservations. I'll be the geek with the light sabre!!!! Post-race sounds good since we are starting before god wakes up and the rooster crows.

HOLY CRAP!!!!  Want to earn some cash?  Meet me at the swim start Sat morning and you can swim with my chip.  I'll meet you in T1.    (1Foot... I just read an announcement that officials are not needed anywhere near the lake until after 7:00am)

I'm assuming you mean 11:30min to 12:00min....  That's smokin!  I've been averaging 21:00.

See if it were me 11:30am to 12:00pm would be much more realistic.

It should be a nice morning for racing. Only if it started a little later.

Hopefully I will catch up with some of you after the race or maybe even before.

Just remember that if you park inside Latta that you cant leave until 9AM. I dont know about the rest of you but I like to get outta there once I am done and I plan to be done before 9AM. There is a church at the top of the road leading into Latta that you can get out of earlier than 9AM but you need to make sure you get there earlier as its a longer walk.

Well I've got good news and I've got bad news--

The Good news is that everything is set up by now except the run markers.

Now for the bad news--

The run from the water at Cane Creek to the TA is probably shorter than this one.  There is also a similar run from the TA to the bike start--except you have to run through a sand volleyball pit on the way     They are also blocking off parking outside of Sample Rd, the sides of Beatties Ford are marked off to prevent any creative parking and the church lot will be staffed to prevent parking.  Plan on being there till the road opens close to 9am

Fun time today kids!!!!!

A couple of tips.

  1. Get there early.  I pulled onto sample drive at 5:20 and felt late.  There were a lot of cars there already (not packed yet by any means), but its about a .75-1 mile walk/ride to the transition area.
  2. Bring a flashlight so you can set up your bike near your car if you have to.  Its DARK at 5:30.  I used mine to make sure my brakes were centered, tires inflated (try seeing that guage in the dark) and just finding crap in my bag.   The transition area is very well lit so don't worry about it there.
  3. If you have the right bag, you can throw it over your shoulders and ride from the lot (after you get off the grass) down to the transition area.  Wear your helmet!!!!
  4. Don't draft.  They officials (including 1Foot) were doing a good job of patroling at Latta.  Much better than any of my other races where it was blatently abused.  Kudos!!!  I even saw her on the back of a motorcycle writing someone up that cruised past me in a pack.  YAY!
  5. Water was 80 degrees this morning.  I actually thought the water was a bit clearer than the Lake Norman course.  You turn LEFT this time on the course instead of right at Norman, so don't get confused.

I'll be there volunteering tomorrow!  I'm supposed to hand out chips and collect them at the finish line.  See you all there!!!  I'll find a BT tattoo and wear it on my calf.

 Good luck and have fun!

The pictures I took at Tri Latta (Sunday) are now up.  Many (most?) are of poor quality.   I was trying to take as many as I could, as quickly as possible in the hopes that a few would be good.    I never met countregirl, so I didn't know what she looked like so there are only a handful of her.  For gygy, keith, jeff & volunteer rob, I have quite a few.  Eric's even in some.

Good job out there today, everyone!

Great pics Tommy!  The only thing that's "poor quality" about those is my posture and gut. Great action shots and I was lucky enough to be in the middle of the action.

So many funny ones in there...  a few of my favorites:

  • Action shots of Jeff running out of the lake with two others in hot pursuit.
  • Jeff finishing the run and me looking at my watch "Jeff, where the hell have you been?!?!?!"
  • My yelling something at Gygy - not a clue what I said, but I look like a drill instructor and she's just laughing... go figure.

Um.... even when you were really needed and your team mates were in action, it looked like you were just walking the carpet.  hehe...

Nice work today Eric for you and your team.  Glad you were all there to support the race!!!!!

Great photos! Wish I had remembered to bring my camera on saturday. Kudos to Eric and the Medic team for for reviving the athlete that had the heart attack. To Alice too for helping out the medics, maybe a new career move?

Hi everyone it was really fun today---I am just getting up from a nap I had a sick child all night Sat and then had alot of trouble sleeping last night!

It was so good to see some of you there! I wish we had all decided on a meeting place but that is okay!!!

I loved the swim, liked the bike, and cannot even express my distaste enough for the run hahaha LOL my legs felt like bricks and my feet kept telling me to stop hahahaha

I am so happy I got to race and that I finished!

A little bit of first time tri humor that you all can laugh at......after the swim I was feeling quite confident about myself and after T1 I got on my bike and was speeding down sample road and one of the volunteers goes, "Nice helmet, did you know it is on backwards?" hahahahaha OMG I wish I had a picture of that. I was in such a hurry I did not even notice!!!!

I hope you all have a great afternoon~
