Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 15/23
Pre-race routine:

3 trips to the bathroom, stretching, testing out bike, adjusting shoes, drink Slim Fast... Oh, I forgot to mention some tears after Al left me to join his wave for the swim.
Event warmup:

Stretching, walking around,
Swim
  • 12h 23m
  • 450 yards
  • 2h 45m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Choppy water, couldnt catch my breath, swallowed water, sputtered & choked, but finished
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on the swim. Learn to breath on either side. Learn to swim without nose plugs
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

It worked out great to just stay in my suit & trishorts, with my race number on a belt.
What would you do differently?:

Have all my snacks attached to my bike already. Have race belt unclasped and easier to grab.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 26s
  • 15 miles
  • 10.79 mile/hr
Comments:

The uphills were difficult, but the intensely steep segments weren't too long, so walking up them worked out just fine. The downhills were awesome. I didn't go any faster than I was comfortable but still got to pass lots of people going downhill.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep putting the miles in. Work on hills, too!
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.... most of the time here is just getting from the dismount to the transition area.
Run
  • 32m 54s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 35s  min/km
Comments:

Legs felt great from the start- no soreness in my calves. I did walk a couple times after getting a sideache, but that quickly went away & I was able to keep going.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the intensity a little earlier in the run. I still had a lot of power left in me at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Sob Sob Sob Walk around, cheer for the troopers finishing off the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

AGain, being overweight is my hugest disadvantage.

Event comments:

Challenging, but fun. Would I do it again, I think so..... wish it wasn't so far & expensive to travel.

Way to go! This was a tough race. I took in a lot of water on the swim too. The hills were brutal. Congrats on finishing!
