Total Time = 1h 29m 16s
Overall Rank = 438/456
Age Group = 18-24
Age Group Rank = 21/23
Pre-race routine:

I was CERTAIN that the event would be cancelled due to weather, so I was quite hungover when I showed up at 7am.
Event warmup:

No warmup....it was SOOOO cold (compared to the 90F I'm used too!)

Comments:

SWIM WAS CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WATER CONDITIONS
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Came in from a 5k into T1 and onto the bike. I already had my shoes on, all I needed was my helmet!! Quick and easy!!!
Bike
  • 39m 90s
  • 14 miles
  • 20.74 mile/hr
Comments:

I fell (gracefully) on the turn. I forgot to train for turns!!! =)
What would you do differently?:

Not fall.....not be hungover!! =)
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

Got in from bike, had to rack it and sprint to the finish. My legs felt like bricks (go figure) but I liked it....and I went gracefully into the finish!!!
What would you do differently?:

Brick training.
Run
  • 33m 15s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 39s  min/km
Comments:

I was not mentally prepared to run first...and it showed in my performance! The first mile (wind at my back) was run in about 7:30....then came the turn around. I cramped up, the wind was completly against me, and the alcohol from the night before caught up to me and decided to come out!
What would you do differently?:

Not live it up the night before and always 'assume' the race will be a go!
Post race
Warm down:

no warm down

What limited your ability to perform faster:

wind/not mentally prepared

Event comments:

I wish we could have swam. I wish the weather were better. I wish I didn't fall on the bike and I wish we didn't START w/ a 5k!
Thank you to EVERYONE on this forum. I thought of quitting a thousand times...and I didn't because I thought of every one of you!

Too bad about the swim and well... the night before.  But you did get out there and compete.  Congrats and a great bike time for being hungover and to fall.  I couldn't get a bike split that fast without falling.  In response to your post on the forum...you train like a triathlete and competed like a triathlete just like everyone else there so YOU are a triathlete.

I have also been in a race and thought of this website while competing.  It has kept me motivated to train and while racing I don't want to fill out a race report with a DNF because I quit a race because I was just tired.  Injured, fine but not because I was just tired.  This site it awesome.  Great job.

Katie,
Well we missed again. Congrats on a great race. You did awesome even with your self inflicted handicaps. You truly are a great inspiration to us all by not giving up. Maybe one day we will get in a ride together. Congrats again.

Scott :-)

Another role model for me Katie, starting (and FINISHING) a Tri when you're hungover!!!!!   And who knew ya have to train for turns??? I've never seen it covered in the books!

All kidding aside, congrats on a great race.  Way to stick with it and finish!!
