Sunny
Total Time = 3h 56m 2s
Overall Rank = 1770/6981
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 179/573
Pre-race routine:

Had a Sustained Energy shake and a banana. Downed some HEED and water

We stayed ~5 mins from the starting line so showed up at 7:05 for a 7:30 start. Slick deal.
Event warmup:

No warmup.

112 mile bike yesterday.

Run
  • 3h 56m 2s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

This was one of the only marathons where I wasn't nervous at the start. After biking long yesterday, I had no idea what to expect for an outcome. I ran nearly the entire race staying in HR zone 2 (upper most of the way) and went from there.

Per usual the first 21 miles went good. I walked through each water stop and did 2 waters and a picked up a wet sponge.

I was pretty steady with my splits being sub 9min till about mi 18, then finished up with all miles sub 10 minutes. I'm not sure I've ever done that.
What would you do differently?:

If I were gunning for a PR I wouldn't bike up before. This was an IM training run so it worked out perfectly.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in the SHADE, had some ice cream, got a beer a brat and some chips. I got a bit woozy and sat down to keep from tipping over. My honey Linda hydrated me and we went for pizza at Green Mill with the group.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Don't swim 1.2 mi and, bike the IM distance the day prior to the race.

Event comments:

Very organized race. Water stops were exceptional with two tables of water, Optima (yuck), ice and sponges. Hats off to the volunteers.

Hey, great LFD (or is it LFW?) performance!  Sub 4 is great for having ridden a couple miles the day before!  During the half it started to get pretty warm around mile 6 and I was thinking I was glad I wasn't doing the full today.  Hope it didn't get too hot for 'ya.  Absorb the past 2 days and get stronger for it.  Congrats.

Great race, especially considering your "taper".  Seems like you're well on your way to a great IM.

Running a sub-4 marathon after an IM distance swim and bike the day before.  Life just isn't fair (shaking my head in envy).  Awesome race!  You're gonna rock IMWI...

Outstanding run considering the bike the day before. Now if you had done ride the same morning, I would REALLY be impressed.

You're gonna knock em dead in Madison. Good luck!
