Is anyone else interested in this century in August. I'm going to register for the 75 mile option - anyone want to join me?

The 19th Annual Project Adventure Kids Covington Century is a charity bike ride hosted by Project Adventure Kids. In 2006, over six hundred cyclists have completed the ride traditionally held the first Sunday in August. Throughout the years, the ride has grown and is fast becoming the best ride in Georgia. This year’s ride is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 5, 2007. The ride starts and finishes on the Project Adventure Kids campus.  There are multiple distance options of 30, 50, 75 and 100 miles.  Registration starts at 7:00am, Riders Meeting starts at 7:45am, and the ride starts at 8am. The Covington Century ride is well known to be one of the fastest century rides!

The ride winds its way through the rural counties of Newton, Jasper, and Walton. You will ride through historic Social Circle, Newborn, Mansfield, and other serene areas in these counties. The ride offers some beautiful scenery and turn of the century architecture. Traffic is minimal and at times non-existent.  The course is undoubtedly one of the fastest rides in the South. If you’re looking for a personal best – smooth, easy, fast, and beautiful – this is it!

T-shirts are given to pre-registration riders – deadline is July 22, 2007. Fee is $25.00 to pre-register and $35.00 the day of the ride. There will be a Spaghetti Supper following the ride at Project Adventure Kids dining hall.

All proceeds will go to Project Adventure Kids. Established in 1981, PA Kids a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless, abused, neglected and at risk youth overcome the barriers they face in life by teaching them behaviorally appropriate responses to life’s obstacles. Over 100 students are presently enrolled in a variety of community based and residential programs in Covington. These programs maintain an 83% success rate, 23% better than the national standard for these youth.  The PA Kids will be at the race in charge of water, refreshments, and cheering the riders to a faster speed!

I did this ride last year and got lost. W as suposed to ride 80 miles but only did 50.  I have a few friends from here who plan to ride it again this year so I might do it.  But right now I'm in horrible shape to do such a long, hilly ride   I guess that means I should start biking again.

If I am in town I will do it. I rode this C a few years back and remember it being extremely hot and the support stops at the end being too far apart. Always nice to get lots of miles with support stops. See you then.
