Just read the instruction for the Antwerp HIM, and unless I am mistaken, it looks all 800 participants are going to start at the same time.

Would appreciate any insight on how to navaigate a sea of 800 people. There goes my 'secret' plan to start on the edge and sneaking up toward the front!

Dont know about that....but on the topic of swimming, anyone know if a wetsuit is required? I am thinking it will be warm enough, but dont really know.

Most of the warnings on the site are talking about the potential obligatory use of wetsuits . . . so i am counting on the fact that wet suits will be allowed. If they ban wetsuits at the last minute (which I doubt), I will need to dig deep and re-think my clothing. Swimming in a tri-suit one piece with pockets would prove . . . . interesting!

Thanks so much for the advice. At this point I dont even own a wetsuit! I better start getting myself ready then! I have been lucky enough to swim all my tris in warm weather.

I've swam plenty of times in one piece trisuits with pockets. They're very tight so there's no noticable drag.

Or you just pick up one of the Desoto (or other manufacturers) speed suits that you wear over your tri suit and peel off when you get out of the water.

The busselton HIM is a mass start for the swim too.  this year there were 960 people starting all together.

firstly prepare yourself for a violent swim start!  there is really no way to avoid being boxed in unless you are the fastest swimmer or the slowest.   My advice is to start wide, ok you might have to swim a little further but you are less likely to be boxed in then.  swimming further is better then having to swim slower over getting hit in the head etc.

my first HIM in busso I got pretty boxed in and it hurt,  this year i was boxed in but I didn't panic just started swimming over people to get myself from free water.  the key is to not panic and be confident in your ability!

 hope that helps!
