Subject: I Am An Official Triathlete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I COMPLETED my first sprint tri this morning and I'm riding on a high right now still.

My unoffical time is about 2:10 or so (give or take). As soon as I find out my official time I'll post it.

The swim was brutal due to the high winds causing the lake to have white cap waves. I swallowed so much water and panicked at the beginning because the buoys and beach seemed so far away and the wind was against us on the way out. Luckily the water was warmer at 72 degrees than the air which I'm estimating to have been in the upper 50's. I basically did the backstroke about 97% of the time.

I got through the bike portion easier than I thought especially with the mile high hill at the end into the transition. I didn't get off my bike at all which was the best I could hope for.

I started crying in the middle of the bike ride because it hit me then that I was actually in the middle of a triathlon. I was actually doing this thing. I was very emotional.

When I reached the transition area, I saw everyone cheering for me...my family, strangers, racers saying "GO 149!!!! YOU'RE DOING GREAT!!! KEEP GOING 149!!!!" and started crying again.

I walked thru part (most) of the run, but was taken under the wing of a couple who I was keeping pace with. The husband had already finished, but was accompanying his wife and so he coached his wife and me.  We did a walk/run and he encouraged us to run to the finish line....we at least had to LOOK the part

Man oh man, no wonder why people get addicted to this sport. I hope I never get jaded after completing more tri's. I want this high to not only last for as long as possible, but to return after I've completed each and every race I do from here on out!

I saw you on the bike portion - so focused and intense!!  I'm so proud you did it - and that was a REALLY rough swim!  The guy next to me threw up water from swallowing so many waves.  I looked for you at the finish and during lunch, but didn't spot you.  Maybe you went home to rest over a victory well-earned!!  Now that you loved it, you have to sign up for TriClough in Goffstown in September!!

I have gotten emotional during a race as well - gee, just thinking about running through that finish line arch has me tearing up right now! It is an awesome thing to set a goal, work really hard, and ACHIEVE IT!!! Don't worry about your style, form... YOU CROSSED THE FINISH LINE!! You have done more than what most people dream of doing! Be proud and enjoy your day as a triathlete. Rock on!!

Congratulations.  You did an awesome job getting through that swim.  There's nothing quite like the feeling of crossing that finish line.

Ya big suck!

Congratulations triathlete! It is the greatest feeling isn't it...one that others can't understand unless they too have conquered some personal achievement like this.

Hold your head high, you are not only one of the few (but growing) number who can use the name triathlete...you also now have one of the best addictions around.

Nicely done!

Huge congrats Shannon! I'm so proud that you overcame your nerves and fears and finished strong. I knew you were racing today and while I was on my bike ride, at the top of the longest and biggest hill I said to myself, "I hope Shannon's course is flatter than mine."

You did freaking awesome, and I can't wait to read your race report. I just finished my report, they had the splits posted online before I even got home, haha.

Congartulations, triathlete...and welcome to the Terordome: more fun than a barrel of monkeys, more expensive than crack cocaine...but the high is better, too. Looks like you remembered the first rule of triathlons, too: HAVE FUN! Congratulations, again!
