Subject: Membership Thoughts...

I remember stumbling across Beginner Triathlete and my first thought was that this site had a lot of potential because of the positive attitude that seemed to abound.  I was looking for a place where I could have a positive influence on others and be surrounded by others who felt the same way.  I remember contacting Ron via email and telling him that I would like to be a part of Beginner Triathlete, not for the sake of publicity for my book, but because I wanted to be a part of a site that would be responsible for changing lives. I think I joined the forum and was 32nd person to join, and we were excited as a group when we had 10 people who joined the forum in a week. Look at us now!

Over the last year and a half, I have seen lives changed and heard some unbelievable motivational stories from others.  I have received numerous emails from people who believe that something I wrote or said on the boards changed their lives or their way of thinking.  In all honesty, I have gained far more from others on the board than I probably have contributed.

One of my college professors was constantly stressing in management classes to remember “The sum of the pieces is greater than the whole.”  Beginner Triathlete has so much to offer and is the perfect example of this principle.  Everyone here has something to offer.  From the future triathlete who has shared overcoming unbelievable odds to those who have made the journey to ironman.  We all fit together like pieces of a puzzle to form a picture that truly shows the beauty of the sport.

Ron has set several levels of donation for the fundraising drive.  I think if you look at the lowest level donation, you will see that these amounts are greatly outweighed by the benefits that we receive.  Ron and others have sacrificed so we could have a chance to attain our goals.  Now it is time for us to make a small sacrifice so that others can have the same chance that we have had.

Love what you said. Since we all long for a sense of community, this is a great site, which offers that as well as encouragement, support, friendship, knowledge and of course good laughs.

Its like having a perpetual 'training buddy'...we all have down times throughout the year, when we don't feel like training...all we have to do is come here, and we get motivated to get back in the pool, on the bike, or on the road...that conscience is priceless...

Thanks to everyone who contributes and i hope one day i will have enough expereince to do so too

I became a member 2 days after seeing the site because I didn't feel it was right to use the training log without contributing (even though it's free).

I run an organization myself (www.yrep.org) and I know what tough work it is to do it.

We may think we know what Ron goes through running this site, but until you run this type of site yourself you'll really have no idea.

So my opinion is, if you use the training log you should contribute (even though some parts are free)...but I'm preaching to the choir here.

I develop software for a large tech company, including asp and asp.net.  Not only does it take a tremendous amount of effort to develop a site like BT, but a tremendous amount of talent also.  Great job!!!
